Shop Technician-H In Shop Pump Mechanic

Key Responsibilities:

  • Disassemble, inspect, and evaluate pumps and components to identify wear, damage, and failure causes.

  • Repair and rebuild pumps including centrifugal, diaphragm, gear, progressive cavity, submersible, and vertical turbine models.

  • Replace bearings, seals, gaskets, shafts, impellers, and other components as needed.

  • Use measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators) to ensure equipment meets manufacturer tolerances and specifications.

  • Clean and prepare components for reassembly.

  • Document findings, measurements, and repair details accurately on service reports.

  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements.

  • Operate shop equipment such as forklift, overhead cranes, and sandblasters when necessary.

  • Communicate with supervisors and team members regarding job status and any issues encountered.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Assist with inventory management and parts ordering as needed.

  • Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in mechanical repair is a plus.

    • Minimum 1 year of experience in pump or mechanical equipment repair.

    • Strong knowledge of mechanical tools, equipment, and procedures.

    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.

    • Basic understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

    • Ability to lift and move heavy components (up to 50 lbs. regularly, more with assistance or equipment).

    • Forklift certification or ability to become certified.

    • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.

    • Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation.

    • Work Environment:

      • Factory/Production Floor Setting: Most of the work is performed in a manufacturing or assembly area, which may be climate-controlled or subject to fluctuating temperatures.
      • Noise Level: Moderate to high due to machinery, tools, and equipment operation. Hearing protection may be required in some areas.
      • Lighting & Ventilation: Generally well-lit and ventilated, but may vary depending on the building.
      • Standing & Mobility: Frequent standing, walking, and moving around the production area are required throughout the shift.

      Physical Demands

      • Lifting & Carrying: May need to lift or move materials or products weighing up to 40-50 pounds.
      • Repetitive Motions: Frequent use of hands and arms for tasks such as assembling, operating tools, or inspecting parts.
      • Manual Dexterity: Precision and hand-eye coordination are important for handling small or delicate components.
      • Bending, Reaching, & Stooping: Required for accessing materials, machines, or components on the line.

      Stress & Pressure:

      • Production Deadlines: Meeting tight production schedules and output targets.
      • Problem Solving: Must quickly address and resolve quality issues

      Workplace Regulations and Standards:

      • Health and Safety Standards : Must adhere to strict health and safety regulations to protect themselves from hazards like fumes, fire, and injury. These standards are often set by occupational safety organizations like OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
      • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) : Are required to wear appropriate PPE, including welding helmets, gloves, protective jackets, face shields, and respirators to protect against the dangers of welding, such as burns, eye injuries, and inhalation of fumes.
      • $28-$35 per hour based on experience
