Position Overview

This employee will provide a combination of Environmental and Civil Engineering consulting services for a wide variety of BMI clients under the supervision of the Dayton Engineering Manager. This employee may also provide field engineering, sampling and testing services as coordinated with the Engineering and Environmental Services Division and Construction Services Division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day technical support of environmental projects - Phase I ESA, Phase II site investigation, UST removal, asbestos/lead paint sampling
  • Routine groundwater and surface water and leachate sampling
  • Preparation of annual license applications, modifications, exemptions, and construction documentation reports for various landfill facilities
  • Aerial mapping using Drone technology and GPS surveying
  • Preparation of NPDES permits and associated reporting
  • Preparation of air permits and associated reporting
  • Interface with government agencies, i.e. OEPA, US Army Corps of Engineers, ODNR, Various health departments, etc.
  • Prepare Environmental Permit applications for 401 Water Quality Certifications, 404 USACE permits, and various engineering programs including slope stability, hydrology, and hydraulics applications
  • Computer modeling of groundwater and contaminant movement
  • Prepare Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and Spill Prevention Contingency and Countermeasures Plans
  • Preparation of proposals, invoicing and general project management

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, or related field from accredited college or university.
  • EIT is required.
  • AutoCAD proficiency desired but not required

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills internally with coworkers and externally with clients and subcontractors
  • Ability and willingness to learn skills necessary to support a variety of environmental/civil engineering projects.
  • Clean driving record. No more than two incidents within the last 36 months. Must meet the company's insurance eligibility requirements.

Staff Management

No direct management; however, this employee is expected to collaborate effectively with other BMI staff to achieve project deadlines.

Client Retention & Business Development

No specific responsibilities to client retention. Business development activities as assigned. Must be an active member of at least one professional organization.

Project Management

Day-to-day technical support of environmental and engineering projects. Project management responsibilities dependent upon experience

Financial Management

This employee will need to track their direct and indirect time, especially as it pertains to project budgets. Other responsibilities dependent upon experience.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to Engineering and Environmental Services Manager (Dept 27)
  • Direct Reports include: None

Physical Requirements:

Physical Ability

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, stoop, twist, reach overhead, climb stairs; lift minimum of 80 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit up to 3 hours at a time
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical, motor vehicle report, and drug screen
  • Work Conditions - Work may expose the employee to inclement weather conditions during the course of fieldwork.

Work Conditions:

  • Combination of office setting and field work; typical work week is approximately 45 hours per week with seasonal variation
  • Field work required and is typically within driving distance from office (e.g. throughout Ohio)
  • Field work may require overnight stays
