Job Description


This position’s responsibilities include providing planning, supervision and documentation for heavy civil construction including roads, drainage, utilities, and site development. The Superintendent directs project Foremen according to the project timeline and provides the necessary managerial support and leadership to ensure safety and operational success. The Superintendent is responsible for the safety of their Foremen and crews.

Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of ­3-5 years of heavy civil projects in a Superintendent capacity Required
  • Proven ability to manage multiple crews on multiple jobs, managing up to 30 persons
  • Ability to read, comprehend construction drawings, specifications.
  • Excellent verbal communications skills, especially when addressing customers, clients or project meetings
  • Quality control of project to identify non-compliance with regulations or standards and ability to suggest solutions for deficiencies or problems
  • Participate in training and adhere to strict PPE and safety policies
  • Be a proactive team member to achieve a high quality completed product for our clients
  • Experience and working knowledge of heavy equipment & Trimble GPS systems
  • Experience using HCSS HeavyJob, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with the operation of office equipment, such as tablets (iPads), computers, copiers, and telephones

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and is responsible for safety, scheduling, workforce planning, coordinating, supervising and assisting with cost control, ensuring the consistent and fair application of all company and customers policies and procedures.
  • Directly supervises and coordinates the activities of field Foremen.
  • Plans, schedules, coordinates, sequences and monitors, procurement and construction activities with Project Manager.
  • Provides overall direction to project personnel regarding professional standards, work quality and quantity, performance, and accountability.
  • Reviews drawings, specifications and submittals.
  • Monitors, and manages project budgets and authorizes expenditures in coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Works closely with the site Foremen to identify, verify and manage any scheduling conflicts, needs, or deficiencies with other crews and subcontractors. Ensures coordination of construction activities.
  • Understands and communicates safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance in all areas of safety, while identifying the needs for crew safety training.
  • Assesses competency and capability of Foremen and employees on the project and evaluates the capabilities of the crew members.
  • Recognizes and addresses issue/problems and provides effective resolutions.
