Operates a heavy motorized collection vehicle for the transport of dewatered sludge for disposal and assists in the operation of a wastewater treatment system for the City of Bryan.
Essential Job Functions
- Operates and maintains roll-off vehicle, dump truck, and backhoe to transport processed sludge for disposal.
- Enters and exits the truck multiple times throughout the day to secure loads and check equipment.
- Assists in sludge processing through operation of belt press and grease plant.
- Assists in general duties associated with maintenance and operation of wastewater treatment plant.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least three (3) years of work experience, preferably involving driving a large vehicle and/or heavy equipment.
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.

- Comply with all City and department administrative directives, policies, and procedures.

Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
- Texas Class B commercial driver's license with a good driving record as measured by the City's evaluation system.
- Must obtain Wastewater Class D Operator License and Wastewater Class C License within the time frame set by the department.
- Must successfully pass an annual pulmonary function test and respirator fit test to determine ability to function while wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) during emergency operations.
Physical Demands
Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, crawling, climbing, and using hands and fingers to operate equipment and to lift or move objects up to 80 pounds, or more with the use of proper equipment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a plant environment with exposure to indoor and outdoor conditions, inclement weather, temperature extremes, noise, vibration, traffic, moving mechanical parts and equipment, rough/uneven/slippery surfaces, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, toxic/caustic chemicals, odors, fumes, dust, dirt, pollen, and other airborne pollutants.
Equipment
Work shall be performed with tools, appliances and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.
Equipment may include but is not limited to: roll-off truck, dump truck, backhoe, belt press, water pump, handheld radio and various other hand and power tools.
