Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and interpret architectural and engineering plans, specifications, and project scopes to understand project requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment based on commercial project documentation.
- Utilize estimating software and Excel to generate accurate cost estimates and bid proposals.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes and compare them against project specifications and budgets.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to clarify project details and resolve inconsistencies.
- Develop cost breakdowns and value engineering recommendations when appropriate.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market pricing, labor rates, and construction industry trends.
- Prepare and present detailed estimates and bid packages to clients and internal teams.
- Assist with procurement by providing quantity and cost data to the purchasing department.
- Support project kickoff meetings and adjust estimates as needed based on design changes or field conditions.
Role Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent work experience.
- 1 year of experience as an estimator in commercial construction (office buildings, retail, industrial, etc.).
- Strong understanding of construction materials, building systems, and trade sequencing.
- Proficiency in reading construction documents and specifications.
- Skilled in estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Sage Estimating, or similar).
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Physical Demands:
This role primarily involves office-based work with extended periods of sitting while working on a computer. Occasional site visits may be required, which can include walking, standing, or climbing on uneven surfaces. Light lifting of documents, plans, or laptops may be necessary.
