Painter - Trades II / Maintenance and Operations

8.0 hours per day/260 days per year

Salary Schedule: $28.70-30.37 per hour

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision assists in the maintenance of school grounds and performs general painting work in protecting buildings and equipment and other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of surfaces for painting or finishing.
  • Patching cracks in plaster and drywall, finish drywall of limited size.
  • Installs vinyl and paper wall coverings.
  • Uses drop cloths properly to protect adjacent surfaces.
  • Mask baseboards; glass, etc. to protect surfaces.
  • Undercoats, apply primers, sealers, etc. to surfaces with brushes, rollers or spray painting equipment.
  • Finish and refinish woodwork and cabinets.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical safety, MSDS, small spill cleanup.
  • Operating and cleaning paint equipment, including scaffoldings, sanders, sprayers, compressors, brushes ,rollers, etc.
  • May select the proper type of paint.
  • May lead and instruct helpers as required.
  • Drive service trucks as required; load and unload materials and supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions year round. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

EDUCATION AND COMPETENCIES:

  • A Washington State Patrol Criminal History Information Form, required by RCW 43.43.830, on file
  • Possession of valid Washington State driver's license or ability to obtain
  • A recognized apprenticeship as a painter or three years work experience as a painter.
  • Knowledge of the standard practices of the painting trade including materials, tools and procedures used in connection with the mixing and applying of paints.
  • Knowledge of codes when applicable.
  • Ability to read prints, schematics, etc.
  • Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance duties.
  • Ability to rig and work from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Establish working relationships with fellow employees.
  • Attendance and punctuality are important in this position.

SCHEDULE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED

BENEFITS: Health insurance benefits include medical, dental, vision, life and long term disability plans through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Retirement benefits are provided through the WA State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).

Paid leave benefits include 12 days of sick leave, 2 personal leave days, 14 holidays and 12 vacation days.

Benefits may be prorated based upon date of hire/hours per day.

Immigration Reform and Control Act Requirement: The recommended applicant, if not a current regular employee, will be required to complete an INS I-9 form and must provide proof of employment eligibility prior to working.

Disclosure Statement and Record Check: Pursuant to Chapter 486, Washington Laws of 1987, the recommended applicant, if not a current regular employee, will be required to complete a disclosure form indicating whether he or she has been convicted of crimes against persons listed in the law. In addition, a background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the Washington State Patrol & FBI. Employment is conditional based upon completion of the record check.
