The maximum in this pay scale is $99,769. Pay above the midpoint to the maximum is typically reserved for employees with sustained performance and established longevity in the position at Douglas PUD. HOW TO APPLY FOR THIS JOB Apply at Position Summary: The Drafting Technician uses Computer Aided Drafting software to perform drafting duties and support engineering design. The Drafting Technician is expected to work within the following drafting disciplines: electrical, structural, civil, mechanical, and architectural. Essential Functions: Draft plans and detailed design drawings for structures, installations, and construction projects using engineering notes, sketches, and/or other drawings. Update existing CAD drawings. Drawing sets will include, but not be limited to, plant electrical, substation electrical, structural, and site drawings. Partner with engineers in field to understand project requirements and provide technical support. Maintain document management for all drawings related to the Wells Hydroelectric Project. Assist the dam safety team with record keeping, including maintenance of historic records and construction documents. Perform field verification of record maps and drawings for accuracy. Prepare permit application drawings using field sketches, survey notes and calculations, and applicable codes. Work closely with the dam safety team to coordinate on-site land survey consultant work and maintain related survey documents. Review and store data from District drone flights. Maintain and build technical skills and expertise in new tools. Support the District's mission and value statements in the performance of job duties. Work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse groups of people and maintain professional interactions at all times in the workplace. Ensure compliance with all District policies. Adhere to the District's Safety Policy and Procedures. Operate District vehicles that may be equipped with a GPS device that monitors vehicle location while conducting business on behalf of the District. Other duties as assigned. Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions between this position, employees, customers, and other members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent, on-site attendance while working independently and with others. This position is designated as safety sensitive. Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of standard drafting concepts and proficient in Computer Aided Drafting software (AutoCAD preferred). Ability to interpret engineering technical drawings for field verification of as-built drawings. Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills. Ability to perform basic math skills to complete surveying and engineering calculations. Ability to adapt and learn new technologies as needed. An ability to display sound judgement, competence, and accuracy in all facets of work. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form. Proficiency in Microsoft Office application products. Education and Experience: Associate's degree in drafting or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and at least two years of drafting experience. Two years of additional equivalent experience may be substituted for the required degree. Experience in land surveying or experience working closely with land surveyors is helpful. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or twist torso; pull, push, or exert force; perform repetitive hand or arm motion; talk or hear. Work is performed primarily in an office environment, but the employee will perform fieldwork that requires the ability to walk on uneven terrain. Exposure to loud noises is frequent. Background screening In accordance with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, Douglas County Public Utility District #1 conducts post-offer background screening of personnel who have access to the District's critical physical and/or cyber assets.
