Drafter / Checker
Position Type: Contract (1 year +)
Position Location: Ferndale, WA
Position Pay: $35/HR - $41/HR (Depending on Experience)
Responsibilities:
Position verifies that plant Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) accurately reflect field conditions in preparation for Hazard Analyses (PHA). Updates P&IDs using AutoCAD software.
Position works a 40-hour week on-site. May work overtime during Turnaround.
Print out P&ID sets from the list provided by process and Process Safety Management (PSM).
Go into the field and verify accuracy of piping on drawings, including but not limited to
All vents and drains with sizes.
Verify drawing continuations between sheets.
Complete information for all equipment specs.
Check for car seal bands and note numbers for any missing car seal valve (CSV) numbers.
Verify car sealed valves to be open or shut per information on P&ID.
Note dead legs.
Check for exposed asbestos, missing bull plugs, pipes off pipe shoes, missing fireproofing, sagging lines, leaks or any maintenance/safety issue noticed in the walkdown.
Mark up P&IDs and correct discrepancies and errors
Print a set of check prints and a set of redlines for the process engineer to review for the PHA.
Make all final corrections and let Document Control know when P&IDs have been updated and are ready to be posted to the document repository.
Participate in Management of Change (MOC) process by updating P&IDs impacted by changes in the field.
Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED a minimum; Higher Education a plus
Experience in an engineering or refinery/chemical or another relevant industrial environment is a plus
Ability to read and understand P&IDs as well as related drawings (e.g. isometrics and plans)
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently
Physically capable of walking long hours and climbing stairs and ladders in the refinery.
An understanding of engineering drawings and equipment documentation
Experience with AutoCAD for P&ID drafting.
Strong communication skills - both verbal and written - to interact with engineers and unit operators.
Ability to structure time effectively to meet deadlines and be flexible for occasional supplemental support requests.
Experience with project document control systems is preferred
Knowledge of SAP Document Management System functionality is a plus
Familiarity with safety requirements and equipment in a refinery environment is preferred
Working conditions:
This position requires being out in the refinery for long periods of time: Walking, climbing ladders and stairs - Does not include scaffolds or anywhere fall protection is required.
Working comfortably at heights and climbing towers over 100' tall
Adhering to safety requirements at all times including wearing proper PPE: Hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, Fire Resistant Clothing, steel-toed boots and hearing protection.
