Who will you be working with?
You'll be joining Wabtec Bus Solutions, a team driving innovation in Transit Bus & Rail systems, including passenger door systems, wheelchair lifts & ramps, e-Bus charging systems, drivers protective barriers, and more. We blend technical expertise with deep product knowledge to deliver high-impact solutions for our customers and communities.
How will you make a difference?
As a senior engineer within Wabtec Bus Solutions, you will lead the design and development focused on a mix of door systems, wheelchair lifts/ramps, windows, drivers barriers, charging products, and other bus-related product lines. Reporting to the Engineering Manager or Supervisor, you will design and develop mechanical based products, influence product direction, and ensure compliance with engineering standards. Your role will include mentoring junior engineers, making key design decisions, and aligning engineering solutions with business objectives.

- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (Masters preferred; ABET-accredited)
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- Basic project management skills and ability to lead engineering based medium sized projects or parts of projects, including lower-level engineers
- Experience with development of mechanical based systems in transportation
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design of systems and components including engineering & manufacturing principles, practices, and procedures
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Expertise in APQP/NPD Stage Gate, DFMEA, RCA/8Ds, DFM/DFA, Tolerance Stack
- Working knowledge in Poka-Yoke, PPAP, VAVE, Lean Six Sigma, GD&T, DOE
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar
- Strong organizational and time management skills with a track record of managing multiple projects successfully
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead cross-functional teams

What will your typical day look like?
- Design and develop mechanical systems per customer and technical requirements
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing
- Make key design decisions that impact product performance, cost, and manufacturability
- Aligning engineering solutions with objectives
- Drive innovation through technology exploration, patent contributions, or process
- Lead engineering efforts from concept through production launch
- Conduct DFMEA sessions to identify and mitigate design risks
- Manage APQP/NPD processes for successful product launches
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality/field issues
- Deliver cost-effective solutions based on performance and spec evaluations
- Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain for DFM/DFA alignment
- Create and review detailed drawings, layouts, and schematics
- Oversee prototype builds and validation testing, including test planning
- Analyze test results to enhance product performance and reliability
- Support Sales and Field Service in resolving technical issues
- Lead 8D teams for systemic problem-solving and continuous improvement
- Maintain clear communication with internal teams and external partners
- Contribute to long-term engineering strategy and innovation initiatives

- Stand, walk, and navigate facilities
- Occasional travel (10%) to customers and manufacturing sites
- Ability to build, test, & inspect electro-mechanical systems and test systems in an office, lab, manufacturing environment, and/or on transit buses

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between
$77,400.00-$110,300.00The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
