Requirements / Qualifications

DEFINITION: Performs repairs and maintains the heating, air conditioning and ventilation units within the district in a timely manner. Works with and oversees the work of private contractors, with limited supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: At least five years of experience and sufficient training in boilers and other types of heating and cooling equipment to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.

Education: Completion of 12th grade or equivalent.

Knowledge of: Standard practices of the trade, the materials, tools and procedures used; detailed knowledge of the equipment encountered in the district; health and safety regulations; oral and written communication skills; technical aspects of field of specialty; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Ability to: To lift, push, carry and move heavy objects and equipment up to 60 pounds; bend, squat, stoop or stand for long periods of time; be able to distinguish between color coded wires; withstand loud noises; set priorities; schedule and assign work; read and understand blueprints, specifications and work orders; work independently with little direction; understand and follow oral and written directions; maintain simple records; compute labor and materials costs; use the tools of the trade skillfully and safely; coordinate with and if necessary supervise the work of others. Train other HVAC employees.
