Crown's Food Division is one of the leading manufacturers of food cans in the world. Our complete array of food packaging serves a variety of markets, including fruit, vegetables, dairy, fish, meat, ready meals, pet food, infant milk powder and other dry food products. Location:

Hanover, PA

This plant manufactures 2-piece and 3-piece steel cans for the food industry over various shift operations. The Hanover Plant is located on Rt 94 in York County and is in close proximity to York, PA, Gettysburg, PA, and the Maryland border.

Job Requirements

Position Overview:

The Millwright works closely with Maintenance and Supervision to aid in plant line performance. The Millwright will fabricate parts, fixtures, and equipment by cutting, fitting, welding components and using milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, machine shop equipment.

Duties And Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager the Millwright responsibilities include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Follow all plant safety rules, LOTO, & required PPE at all times. Participate in plant Safety Program.
  • Follow all SOP's that are applicable to performing this work as well as general plant SOP's
  • Good housekeeping is required at all times. Work area is to be clean, orderly, and free of hazards at all times. Work area must be cleaned up after completion of work to prevent safety hazards and product quality concerns.
  • Participate in team meetings as required.
  • Dismantle and reassemble any production equipment that needs to be replaced or repaired.
  • Ability to Setup Machine Shop Equipment (drills, lathes, saws, etc.)
  • Precise machining of machine parts.
  • Fabricate and repair manufacturing equipment as needed, including mechanical repairs and rigging large equipment and parts into position.
  • Read and interpret machine engineering drawings, bills of material, complex instructional books and manuals.
  • Assist with machine or line troubleshooting.
  • Skid or crate large equipment and parts for shipping.
  • Operate a forklift to move machinery, parts and equipment.
  • Maintain housekeeping excellence in the work areas, including at completion of job.
  • Perform other job duties as required or assigned.
  • Work overtime as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

  • Mechanical aptitude to understand various parts/equipment specifications (part dimensions, bore sizes, engineering drawings, etc.).
  • Welding (stick/mig), fabrication, general machine assembly. TIG welding will be a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of all types of hand tools including fabrication tools.
  • A strong understanding of angles and great skill with squares and other tools.
  • Ability to read and utilize precision measuring tools (ex. micrometers, calipers, dial indicator, rulers, etc.)
  • Experience working on defective parts of machine, calibrate and/or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, and manlifts.
  • Effective communication skills dealing with internal Team Members and external Vendors, etc.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Experience with surface grinders.
  • Must be available to work various shifts if needed to provide additional support.
  • Must have excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills/experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • High School Education/GED.
  • Basic understanding of can manufacturing process and the make/model of the major plant machinery.
  • Knowledge of all OSHA related training in a manufacturing environment.
  • 6S Training.
  • Forklift and manlift experience are highly preferred.
  • Experience in hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with milling machines and metal lathes.

Working Conditions

  • Generally, works in plant environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member will be exposed to light lifting, warehouse forklift traffic, range of temperatures.
  • Production noise level is frequently loud.
