HVAC Assistant Superintendent - Commercial Construction

The Assistant Superintendent, under the direction of the (Senior) Superintendent, is responsible for supporting the Superintendent in all phases of HVAC projects. Assists the project team and is responsible for some of the major deliverables of the project.

General Requirements and Field Activities

  • Assists the superintendent in executing all scheduled installation activities with labor subcontractors to ensure the highest level of quality and that construction practices are being performed in a safe and timely manner
  • During normal working hours, responds to all incoming phone calls and emails received on a company-issued iPhone or iPad promptly, i.e., immediately, if safety is not a concern or within 1 hour if in a meeting or on a ladder
  • Responsible for maintaining clean work areas daily. Coordinate effort with subs and the superintendent.
  • Assists superintendent in organizing job site logistics: deliveries, storage of materials on site, material take-off, etc.
  • Works with provided project information files by reviewing the documents and familiarizing oneself with the projects scope, schedule, specifications, drawings, list of suppliers and subs, job-specific inclusions and exclusions, equipment layout in the building, equipment lead times and expected deliveries, etc.)
  • Assists superintendent in maintaining on-site documentation such as complete safety documentation, daily reports, as-built drawings, inspections, commissioning forms, and punch list documentation
  • Communicates job progress by submitting written daily reports (email), verbally by meeting with the superintendent
  • Required to travel between multiple projects depending on job site conditions and schedule
  • Assists the superintendent in tracking the performance of all HVAC subcontractors on site
  • Follows the companys QC/QA/safety procedures and assists the superintendent in implementing, executing, and tracking all job-site-specific activities related to QC/QA/Safety
  • Responsible for avoiding and mitigating risks related to this job description by being proactive and focused
  • Reviews and follows engineered drawings and specifications to ensure compliance of installation work with such. Notes and communicates any concerns to the superintendent.
  • Request information from the superintendent or general contractor in a written or verbal form promptly to assist the superintendent in recognizing any possible grey areas in scope and avoiding risk exposure.
  • Reviews control drawings to understand the control scope of work, including the sequence of operations
  • Coordinates with controls and startup to ensure optimal project efficiency
  • Maintains safety documentation and inspections per the superintendents request
  • Attends all job site inspections and job meetings
  • The AS is the first one to arrive and the last one to leave the job site
  • Being on time is a requirement

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Able to comprehend and speak English
  • Strong communication skills, thorough and attentive to details, able to prioritize and multitask, proactive, and deadline-oriented
  • Ability to interact effectively with general contractors, labor subcontractors, and the internal team
  • Requires attention to detail and the ability to coordinate between trades
  • Demonstrates organizational and leadership aptitude
  • Possesses problem-solving skills
  • Has general knowledge of OSHA safety requirements
  • Ability to anticipate and be proactive to minimize conflict, problem field conditions, errors, and omission issues on drawings and specifications
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, memos, and drawings
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to general contractors, labor subcontractors, and the internal team
  • Proficient in using the Internet to research information
  • Proficient with MS Suite, Bluebeam Revu, Vista, Toolbox Talks

Minimum Requirements:

  • Trade School preferred
  • 1 -3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record
