TITLE: Maintenance Technician, Welder

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

POSITION REPORT TO: Maintenance Manager

SUMMARY: The Welder in a food manufacturing facility is responsible for performing welding and fabrication tasks to maintain, repair, and construct equipment used in the production process. The role involves working with various metals and alloys to ensure the safety, efficiency, and compliance of machinery used in food production.

SHIFT HOURS: 2pm-10:30pm

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in welding techniques (e.g., AWS, ASME) is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a welder in a manufacturing or industrial setting, preferably in food production or a similar regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and hygiene standards is a plus.
  • Ability to operate various welding equipment and tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in welding tasks.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity for prolonged periods of welding work

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Welding and Fabrication: Perform welding and fabrication tasks on food production equipment, conveyors, stainless steel tanks, and other components as required.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on machinery, ensuring that all equipment remains in good working condition to prevent production downtime.
  • Repair Work: Address equipment breakdowns and damage promptly, making necessary repairs to keep production lines operational.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Follow a maintenance schedule to carry out routine preventive maintenance tasks to prevent equipment failure and ensure its longevity.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper welding techniques, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Documentation: Keep accurate records of all welding and maintenance work performed, including logs of completed tasks, materials used, and any equipment inspections.
  • Problem Solving: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with equipment to identify the root cause and find effective solutions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other maintenance personnel, engineers, and production teams to coordinate repairs and ensure the uninterrupted operation of the facility.
  • Material Management: Maintain an inventory of welding materials and tools, ensuring that the necessary supplies are always available.
  • Continuous Improvement: Suggest and implement improvements to the manufacturing facility's infrastructure and processes, focusing on enhancing safety and efficiency.
