As a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer, youll support new designs and modifications for aircraft structures and systems, focusing on the development of high-quality, timely design solutions. Youll work closely with cross-functional engineering teams and contribute throughout the product life cyclefrom initial concept through to in-service support.
Responsibilities:
- Perform autonomous design solution development of moderate to complex mechanical systems, including metallic/non-metallic structures and system installations (electrical, hydraulic, fuel).
- Support project phases including part design, layout optimization, trade studies, weight reduction initiatives, certification activities, and in-service product support.
- Create and modify design documentation (Design Datasets, Product Structures, etc.) using advanced engineering tools (SAP, CATIA, VPM, and others).
- Collaborate with Static Stress, Fatigue & Damage Tolerance (F&DT), and other internal teams to deliver optimal design solutions.
- Guide project execution from concept through completion, ensuring technical quality, efficiency, and alignment with customer requirements.
- Serve as a technical mentor and contribute to the development of junior engineers.
- Utilize or work toward obtaining Authorizer or Approver Technical Signatory status.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering, with a focus on structural design, analysis, or mechanics of materials.
- Minimum of 9 years of design experience in airframe structures and/or aircraft system installation.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Demonstrated expertise using design software such as CATIA and enterprise tools like SAP.
- Ability to write technical reports and communicate complex ideas effectively across teams.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working independently.
- Understanding of maintenance repair shop processes and aircraft system capabilities.
- Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Willingness to travel up to ~5% domestically; international travel may occur based on project requirements.
