Lyon Shipyard, a leader in ship repair and maintenance, is looking for an experienced Commercial Ship Repair Estimator to join our growing team.
About the role:
The Commercial Ship Repair Estimator plays a critical role in the durable goods manufacturing industry by accurately assessing the scope, cost, and timeline of repair projects for commercial vessels. This position requires a deep understanding of ship construction, repair processes, and industry standards to develop precise and competitive estimates that support business growth and client satisfaction.
What You’ll Do:
- Inspect vessels and review specs to develop accurate repair estimates
- Prepare detailed labor, material, and subcontractor cost proposals
- Work closely with production teams, vendors, and customers
- Support bid reviews and contract negotiations
- Conduct thorough inspections and assessments of commercial ships requiring repair to determine the extent of work needed.
- Collaborate with the production teams to understand technical requirements and constraints.
- Review and analyze repair specifications, blueprints, and technical documents to ensure comprehensive estimates.
- Communicate with clients to clarify project scope, address concerns, and provide transparent cost breakdowns.
- Maintain and update estimation databases and documentation to support future project planning and analysis.
- Monitor market trends and material costs to ensure estimates reflect current pricing and industry standards.
- Assist in developing project schedules and resource allocation plans based on estimation outcomes.
What We’re Looking For:
- Ability to read ship drawings and specifications.
- Ship repair estimating experience (commercial or government vessels) .
- Knowledge of marine systems, structural repairs, and drydocking .
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Minimum of 3 years experience in ship repair estimation or a closely related role within the maritime or durable goods manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of ship repair processes, materials, and industry regulations.
- Proficiency in estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with commercial vessel types such as cargo ships, tankers, or passenger vessels.
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
- Hands-on experience in shipyard operations or repair project coordination.
- Knowledge of safety standards and environmental regulations related to ship repair.
