Laborer Assigned to Grounds

(Field Crew)

REPORTS TO:

Director of Operations and Supervisor of Facilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions
• Ability to learn simple manual laboring tasks
• Ability to operate simple equipment
• Ability to perform arduous, physical work, often under adverse weather conditions
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
• Current residency in New Jersey, approved residency waiver or candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment.

JOB GOAL:

This is routine, unskilled and limited, semi-skilled, work performing manual labor. Work involves a variety of laboring tasks and the limited skills required can be readily learned on the job. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Supervisor of Grounds. Work is reviewed by immediate inspection or by observation.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs manual laboring work in the maintenance and care of grounds
• Cuts grass with power mowers, rakes debris, prunes bushes
• Plants shrubs and flowers, weeds flower beds and trims shrubs
• Loads and unloads trucks with sand, cement, bricks, supplies, equipment, broken concrete, ladders, topsoil and other materials
• Lines and marks playing field for sports
• Puts up and removes backstops
• Cleans field houses and stores sports equipment when not in use
• Drives a tractor to plow snow and shovels snow and ice
• Cleans up stadium after games
• Drives trucks when required
• Performs related work as required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• 2 years' experience in manual laboring work
• Landscaping experience a plus

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

12 month position; salary in accordance with the Kearny School Employees Association.

Annual Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with NJ State law and the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluations.
