Job Description
An Estimator is responsible for analyzing various aspects of a project to determine cost estimates. This role involves careful examination of project requirements, materials, labor, and subcontractors to provide accurate and comprehensive budget forecasts.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and clients. They will play a crucial role in winning work and ensuring the profitability of projects.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates
- Consult with clients, vendors, and team members to discuss and refine project requirements
- Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and budget risks associated with project execution
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for clients and stakeholders outlining the estimated costs and budget justifications
- Maintain database with updated records of past project costs to assist in future estimates
- Collaborate with project leads to ensure estimates align with project timelines and objectives
- Periodically monitor ongoing project costs and adjust estimates as necessary to reflect changes in scope or market conditions
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in project estimating database software
- Proficiency in project management software and tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Experience with budgeting and cost control
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
- Prior experience in cost estimating, project management, or a related role
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations
- Proven track record of successfully managing project budgets and timelines
- Certification in cost estimating or project management (e.g., AACE, PMI) is a plus
Travel Requirements:
- Flexibility to travel on short notice for urgent business needs, to attend meetings, trainings, and events.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance during business trips.
- Compliance with company travel policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to climb flights of stairs and ladders.
- Ability to use a computer, phone, iPad, printer, scanner, and other office equipment.
- Visual acuity for detailed work and computer use
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 25 pounds of files, documents, and materials.
