Serve as Housing & Code Enforcement Inspector; responsible for conducting housing and property maintenance inspections and City Code enforcement.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
This is not an attempt to list all work operations of this job position. Duties generally include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Schedules and performs rental property inspections.
2. Communicates with property owners, manager and tenants relative to implementation and enforcement of codes and ordinances.
3. Responds to citizen complaints, identifies violations, issues citations, resolves disputes and works with property owners to achieve code compliance.
4. Inspects properties and reports observed or suspected violations, including rental licensing violations. Process and prepares paperwork and citations. Takes photographs to document conditions when needed.
5. Process files for hazardous housing units. Coordinates compliance with property owners
6. Monitors vacant properties, identifying code violations and ensures units remain secured.
7. Develops and maintains educational brochures for the public regarding City Codes and Rental Licensing requirements.
8. Prepares and maintains necessary records, reports and databases.
9. Monitors the community to promote and maintain the safety and well-being of residents by identifying and addressing house maintenance conditions.
10. Assist with the review of rental license applications and issuance of rental licenses.

9. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent and/or as assigned. by the Community Development Director.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREREQUISITE(S):
1. Knowledge and/or work experience in Housing code and Property code enforcement.
2. Knowledge and/or work experience utilizing computer applications; database, spreadsheets, word processing, Outlook mail/calendar, online programs.
3. Ability to obtain Certification in Property Maintenance of Housing by ICC (International Code Council) within one (1) year of hire date.
OTHER PREREQUISITES :
1. Specific Qualifiers/Test(s):

- Able to meet standard background and criminal check.
- Valid and unrestricted Drivers License and satisfactory driving record.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED
1. Previous employment experience working for a municipality or other governmental agency in a similar capacity.
2. Previous employment experience administering a Rental Licensing Program and licensing inspections.
