We are seeking an individual who is passionate about joining a team in the manufacturing of high quality laminates and films used in a variety of applications including on cabinetry in kitchen and bath applications, countertops and paneling in recreational vehicles and in the enhancement of interior retail spaces.

The Utility Operator works on a team responsible for the production of decorative laminates. This is a skilled operator position requiring the preparation and manufacturing of materials for upcoming and current production orders. This position will assist in ensuring products run efficiently and meet quality standards. This position will also assist in plant wide general duties and be an active participant in plant safety. This position will require the employee to be flexible with their job assignment, filling in wherever is needed day-to-day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and utilize safety equipment and procedures and know all emergency procedures

  • Understand RCRA and MSDS labeling and "Right to Know" requirements

  • Know the location procedure for fire alarms, eyewash station and safety blanket

  • Understand and use procedures for setup, startup, production and shutdown for each material run on equipment to include:

  • Safety protocol

  • Startup, setups, lineout, and shutdown of machine(s)

  • Operate all let-off and wind-off control panel activities

  • Roll splicing as required by product type or scheduling

  • Safe operation of all material handling equipment

  • Utilization of SAP (online production system)

  • Understand and use procedures for changing and cleaning machinery as necessary

  • Independently operates all auxiliary machines such as the sheeter, masker, etc.

  • Able to successfully operate wind-ups and assist in mix on all 3 calender lines

  • Able to successfully operate wind-up, let-off and assist in operation of all finishing lines

  • Know and use all finished goods handling and packaging procedures

  • Train and assist others as needed

  • Learn skills, procedures or processes for advancement and improvement

  • Work with scheduling and supervision to optimize quality and output

  • Maintain a clean, orderly and safe work area

  • Perform any additional duties as requested to meet business or production conditions or changes

  • Act as a material handler/setup when not actively filling an open role

  • Understand the quality system and all quality procedures relevant to this position

  • Observe the sheet and understand the quality defects to look out for

  • Document and report all mechanical and electrical problems to maintenance

  • Report any and all quality or task difficulties to supervisor or appropriate personnel

  • Facilitate forklift training for new hires

  • Available for OT as needed

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Frequently communicates and exchanges work information with others
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills to operate SAP system
  • Ability to work together as a team in a high-performance work environment
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to pivot between job roles and tasks frequently
  • Able to obtain and maintain forklift trainer certification

Education and Experience:

  • 2 years of manufacturing experience preferred
  • Forklift Trainer certified or ability to obtain certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds as needed.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs
  • Frequently positions self to use/maintain personal protective equipment.
  • Comfortable with working in a manufacturing environment alongside machines, equipment, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other site-specific machinery
  • Frequently moves about the site to perform job functions
  • Exposure or works around chemical processing, unregulated temperature, dusty conditions

Travel Requirements:

Time spent away from home or typical office location.
