GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Terminal Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the terminal to ensure safe, efficient, andpliant handling of cargo and related services. This leadership role requires strong operational expertise, logistical coordination, and personnel management to deliver high-performance oues in a fast-paced environment. The position plays a critical role in driving safety, sustainability, operational excellence, and stakeholder satisfaction through strategic planning, effective team leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives. This individual collaborates closely with internal teams, third-party service providers, and external stakeholders to align terminal performance with broaderanizational goals.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

Ensure Safety and Regulatory Compliance

Enforce all applicable safety regulations,pany policies, and industry standards to maintain a safe,pliant, and incident-free work environment. Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and safety training.

Supervise and Develop Terminal Workforce

Manage third-party and in-house terminal staff by coordinating training, scheduling, and daily operations to ensure optimal efficiency and alignment with operational goals. Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Coordinate and Optimize Logistics Operations

Plan, schedule, and coordinate cargo handling, storage, and transport activities in alignment with ship manifests and operational priorities. Identify and mitigate logistical bottlenecks to ensure seamless throughput.

Maintain Terminal Assets and Infrastructure

Oversee the maintenance, repair, and functionality of terminal equipment, buildings, and infrastructure. Implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend asset life.

Develop and Implement Operational Strategies

Design and deploy operational procedures and strategies aimed at enhancing productivity, reducing costs, and improving service levels. Benchmark performance against industry best practices

Monitor KPIs and Drive Performance Improvements

Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. Rmend and implement process enhancements to optimize terminal performance.

Engage with Stakeholders and Customers

Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including shipping lines, customers, and regulatory agencies. Ensure clear, timelymunication and high service standards.

Ensure Environmental Stewardship and Compliance

Monitor and enforcepliance with environmental regulations and best practices. Oversee the responsible storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with applicable laws.

Support Financial Planning and ing

Assist in the development and management of operating budgets, forecasts, and financial reports. Monitor expenditures and contribute to cost control measures aligned with corporate objectives.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Lifting to 50 pounds (varies with some office employees but not exceeding the stated lifting requirement)

May stand for a long period of time during the day (except for office employees)

OTHER ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS:

MS Office Package (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

Availability to drive a vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license while employed is required.

Proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to create the required reports.

Knowledge of Tidework's, Vilden's Norton Lilly System AMS system, D365, and Tranship preferred.

Availability to work on vessels and loading docks.

Overtime, weekends, and holidays to cover 24/7 operations required.

Occasional travel to other ports/terminals required.

Knowledge of Cargo Importation and Exportation preferred.

HazMat Cargo Certification preferred.

Knowledge of customs brokerage and labor relations preferred.

Bilingual Spanish a plus but not necessary

Required Experience

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

BA in Logistics Supply Chain or Transportation preferred

5+ years of experience; knowledge of stevedoring practices, container, yard, vessel operations, labor relations, and supervision to perform all facets of the operation required.
