Project Engineer
Job Description

The Project Engineer is responsible for the design and execution of capital projects within production plants, working under the guidance of the Project Manager or Engineering Manager. This role is fully accountable for managing assigned projects and may also contribute to larger project teams supporting major expansion initiatives. Typical projects include process improvement, building renovation, utility upgrades, and asset replacements with capital values typically below $1MM. The Project Engineer will also support Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering in resolving technical issues throughout the plant related to equipment and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned capital projects from start to finish with accountability to cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Develop project objectives by reviewing proposals and plans, conferring with management.
  • Determine project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assign personnel to phases and elements; review bids from contractors.
  • Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; complete technical studies; prepare cost estimates.
  • Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests.
  • Determine project schedule by studying plan and specifications; calculate time requirements; sequence project elements.
  • Maintain project schedule by monitoring progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
  • Control project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan/schedule changes; recommend actions.
  • Control project costs by approving expenditures in SAP; administer contractor contracts.
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommend actions.
  • Maintain a safe/clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Lead handoff from the project team to operations once acceptance testing is complete.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to resolve technical issues throughout the plant.
  • Participate in daily operations meetings, OEE reviews, and weekly operations meetings.
  • Support the development of capital plans for the production plant.
  • Develop an understanding of equipment and processes.
  • Partner with process improvement engineer to develop equipment improvement plans.
  • Support major expansion projects throughout the US.
  • Participate in team meetings, technical design analysis, and vendor selection.
  • Lead portions of projects as assigned.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering.
  • 2-4 years of related manufacturing experience in CPG, food, or pharmaceutical.
  • 3 years of project experience.
  • Experience in GMP manufacturing processes preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Knowledge of CIP systems preferred.
  • Ability to occasionally sit, stand, walk, stoop/twist, kneel, squat, and reach; constant visual acuity (near/far); occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Experience with SAP project management software.
  • Experience in continuous improvement and project planning.
Work Environment

The work environment is fully onsite, with typical work hours from 7 AM to 4 PM or 8 AM to 5 PM. The Project Engineer will collaborate daily with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams. The physical demands include occasional sitting, standing, walking, stooping, twisting, kneeling, squatting, and reaching. The work involves exposure to dust, fumes, and hazards, while working with machinery. The facility processes common allergens such as wheat, eggs, dairy, and soy.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $38.00/hr.
