Electrical Inspector (Code Enforcement)

Position Summary

Works under general supervisionof the Senior Inspector to make inspections and to enforce and/or ensureconformity to Memphis and Shelby County Code Enforcement systems.

Pay Grade: 51

Salary Commensurate withExperience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

1. Three (3) years of experiencein the electrical trade industry; and

2. High school diploma or GED.

3. Current JourneymanElectrician's License.

4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAININGAND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Performs field inspectionsaccording to inspection procedures and codes.

2. Investigates and answerscomplaints.

3. Recommends corrective actionsregarding code violations.

4. Documents inspection approvalsand denials utilizing assigned technical equipment.

5. Performs other related dutiesas required or directed.

KSAs

1. Thorough understanding andknowledge of applicable related codes and ordinances.

2. Knowledge of the standardpractices, processes, tools, equipment and materials of the electrical trade.

3. Ability to make decisions andtactfully interact with disgruntled customers.

4. Ability to read and interpretelectrical plans and specifications.

5. Ability to critically observeelectrical installations or alterations, obtain accurate data and preparereports.

6. Ability to operate a computerand system software.

Physical Requirements

1. Work involves exposure toareas under construction.

2. Must possess the physicaldexterity to access all areas during construction including but not limited tobending, stooping, climbing ladders, assessing attics and walking on uneventerrain.

3. Must pass a physicalexamination.

Special Requirements

1. Must possess a valid Tennesseedriver license or secure one by date of employment.

2. Must successfullycomplete the respective certification examinations of the InternationalAssociation of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI- 1 & 2 Family and ElectricalGeneral or Electrical Commercial) or (ICC - Residential Electrical Inspectorand Commercial Electrical Inspector) within 90 days of employment.
