Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the R&D Site Manager, the R&D Supervisor is responsible for the organization and direction of all R&D operations personnel and the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of laboratory infrastructure to include; daily supervision, monitoring and coaching of employees to ensure a productive workforce in compliance with applicable policies; work planning, corrective action program support, training, resource scheduling and planning, requisition of materials and equipment, evaluation and management of lab performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise 10 R&D Lab Techs & other skilled labor in support of in-house research goals
  • Interface with researchers to define job scope from work orders
  • Assist with developing work breakdown structure for field tasks required for the installation of new or modification of existing research projects
  • Estimate field work required to build or modify R&D projects
  • Perform design reviews and provide feedback to engineering on constructability
  • Schedule resources using Primavera P6 scheduling software
  • Order materials to support work
  • Conduct Plan-of-the-Day meetings with technicians to provide daily work assignments and guidance
  • Complete job hazard analysis and work plans necessary to communicate hazards and mitigations to employees
  • Conduct routine toolbox safety talks
  • Maintain site R&D Summary and Deliverables spreadsheet
  • Identify technician training and equipment needs
  • Identify and train a back-up(s) to manage key tasks when absent
  • Additional functions not specifically outlined in this position description as directed by the leader
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • High school diploma or GED/TASC/HiSET and at least five (5) years of direct job-related experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Steward the organizational culture with a focus on teamwork and commitment to service amidst a diverse colleague and customer base
  • Ability to quickly adapt focus, adjust schedule and problem solve to meet evolving work demands and needs of the R&D Site Manager and other stakeholders
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Ability to pass an extensive background investigation, including but not limited to personal and professional financial history, nationwide criminal record search, credit check and other relevant background check information deemed necessary by WDC
Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Five years supporting R&D operations at NETL Albany
  • Five years performing one of the following trades, electrician, welder, pipefitter, plumber
  • Excellent Word and Excel skills
  • Experience with work breakdown structures and resource loaded schedules
