Electrical Inspector III (5113)

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING PERMITS.

This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.This position is responsible for conducting electrical plan reviews as needed and performing field inspections on new constructions. This position is also responsible for installations, alterations and additions to existing residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with existing standards, current adopted codes, and ordinances. Employee inspects electrical construction and other installations for compliance with electrical codes and trade standards. Issues violation notices of code violations requiring corrective action. Conducts follow up inspections and testifies at legal proceedings regarding inspections/violations. Writes inspection reports, records inspection fees and notices, and logs daily activities. Employee responds to questions from the public, contractors, property owners, and others regarding electrical inspections and Building Permit related questions. Performs related work as assigned. May be required to perform after hour and weekend inspections. May be required to work on the East and West Bank as needed. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.Possession of current certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Residential Electrical Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector, and Electrical Plans Examiner;

PLUS, must meet at least one (1) of the following listed options:

I. Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in the classification of Electrical Inspector II.

OR

II. Possession of a current Electrical Work Statewide license issued by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC).

OR

III. Possession of a current Class A Master Electrical license* issued by Jefferson Parish.

OR

IV. Possession of a current Class C Electrical license issued by Jefferson Parish and three (3) years of full-time, paid, journeyman-level electrical work experience.

OR

V. Seven (7) years of full-time, paid, journeyman-level electrical work experience under a licensed Electrician possessing either a Class A Master Electrical license issued by Jefferson Parish or an Electrical Work Statewide license issued by the LSLBC.

• Proof of eligibility to renew/activate license (e.g., through previously passing regulatory examination) may be acceptable for qualifying purposes.

Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
