Job Title: Structural Steel Draftsman – Estimator Trainee

Overview: A key client of gpac is offering a unique opportunity for a Structural Steel Draftsman looking to transition into a long-term Estimating career. This role is ideal for someone with 3–5 years of detailing experience who is eager to move off the drafting board and into an office-based role that will shape their future in the steel construction industry. The successful candidate will receive hands-on mentorship from seasoned estimators and leadership committed to professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in preparing structural steel estimates for commercial and industrial projects

• Interpret architectural and structural drawings, blueprints, and specifications

• Support senior estimators in quantity takeoffs, cost calculations, and bid preparation

• Collaborate with detailing, project management, and fabrication teams

• Learn pricing, material specs, labor rates, and vendor coordination as part of the training

• Maintain estimating files and support bid strategy discussions

Qualifications:

• 3–5 years of experience in structural steel detailing

• Proficiency or exposure to Tekla Structures or SDS/2

• Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection drawings

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to read technical plans

• Strong communication and organizational skills

• Motivated to learn estimating with the long-term goal of growing into a full-time estimator role
