GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Corrections contributes to public safety by exercising reasonable, safe, secure, and humane management while actively providing offenders opportunities to become law-abiding citizens.
The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) is specifically designed to serve as the main intake and assessment center for male inmates. It serves as a primary education and treatment center for inmates identified as requiring high levels of protective custody and medical, mental health, dental, substance abuse, life skills, cognitive/behavioral, and/or sex offender treatment services.
This position will coordinate and document inmate job assignments to include: assigning inmates to jobs within the facility; approving raises and advancement; maintaining job descriptions for each inmate work category; maintaining individual inmate work files; and monitoring budgets. This position will also train and supervise inmates in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility; order and deliver supplies; maintain inventory; maintain tool control and chemical control documentation; maintain documentation of pillow/mattress issues; assess and resolve safety and hygienic issues, including floor maintenance issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Prepares and performs daily schedules and duties to meet sanitation and infection control needs.
  • Observes and supervises activities of housekeeping staff (inmate workers), including assigning and directing work.
  • Performs housekeeping and laundry duties, as needed.
  • Recommends and provides instruction for the use of existing equipment/materials as well as new equipment and cleaning methods.
  • Maintains housekeeping records as assigned to a particular area.
  • Maintains an inventory of equipment and cleaning chemicals.
  • Review and approve inmate timesheets.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment

KNOWLEDGE :

  • Knowledge of inventory, purchasing, bookkeeping, and preparing business-related forms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Management) Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Housekeeping) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Housekeeper OR Education & Experience Substitution: 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Housekeeping) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Housekeeper Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Lifting/grasping up to 50 pounds without assistance on a regular basis
  • Walking on cement floors on an occasional to regular basis
  • Balancing on an occasional basis
  • Stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching on an occasional basis
  • Reaching on a regular basis
  • Standing on an occasional to regular basis
  • Pushing/pulling on a regular basis
  • Typing/Repetitive motion on an occasional to regular basis
  • Talking/hearing on a frequent basis
  • Seeing: the visual ability to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Seeing: the visual ability to operate machinery and perform mechanical or skilled trades duties.
