As the right hand to the Ski Area Superintendent, you'll be at the heart of lift operations, snowmaking, trail maintenance, budgeting, and staff coordinationboth on and off the slopes. This is your opportunity to make a lasting impact on one of Wyomings premier recreation destinations.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist in managing day-to-day operations, staff training, and scheduling
  • Help maintain and operate ski lifts, snow grooming equipment, and snowmaking systems
  • Oversee off-season projects including forest management, erosion control, and building maintenance
  • Support budgeting, reporting, and inventory tracking
  • Provide exceptional customer service to the public and staff alike

Incumbent is responsible for assisting with coordinating the organization, staffing, and operational activities for the Hogadon Ski Area, including on and off season.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Receives general guidance from the Ski Area Superintendent or higher-level management.

1. Assists the Ski Area Superintendent in leading staff to include: prioritizing and assigning day-to-day tasks; monitoring daily operations; assisting with staff training; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. In the absence of the Superintendent, authorizes time off, approves payroll, and makes hiring decisions.

2. Assists in planning and scheduling the construction and maintenance of the operational activities for the Hogadon Ski Area.

3. Coordinates and assists with the maintenance of lifts, trails, buildings, and equipment; both on and off season.

4. Assists with budget preparation and administration; prepares costs estimates and justifications for budget items; and monitors expenses to align with the ski area budget.

5. Conducts forest management operations in the ski area, including tree removal and erosion control.

6. Identifies resource needs; participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures; and helps set goals and objectives for work group(s) within the ski area.

7. Prepares operational and statistical reports, assigned.

8. Assists with the work plan for the Hogadon Ski Area; meets with assigned staff to identify and resolve problems; monitors workflow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures.

9. Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.

10. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Knowledge (position requirements at entry):
Knowledge of:

Operational characteristics, services, and activities of a ski area.
Ski lift maintenance and repair.
Applicable Federal, State, Local and City government codes, rules, and regulations relating to the various aspects of ski area management.
Snow making machinery and snow grooming.
Erosion prevention and repair techniques.
Forest management techniques, including disease and pest control.
Basic principles of municipal budget preparation and control.
Principles of leading, training, and developing employees.

Operating in a courteous, knowledgeable, and tactful manner with customers, staff, and the general public. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
Associates degree in resort management, business or public administration or a related field preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in ski area operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed below.

LICENSING and CERTIFICATIONS
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Wyoming Class B Commercial drivers license preferred.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Outdoor Emergency Care Medical Technician (OEC-T) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, within one (1) year of hire. Physical and Environmental Conditions:
City of Casper employees in data creation and modification, security sensitive or safety and protective positions are subject to pre-employment drug testing. Some employees may be subject to random drug testing if their responsibilities include:
Emergency response/rescue
Handling or working with hazardous materials, including chemicals as well as solid and liquid waste
Operating or maintaining water and wastewater systems
Writing or modifying code, maintaining, or modifying City data systems including work on networks, servers, and communication systems
CDL operations and driving
Operating power-driven machinery or equipment
Creating or modifying health, financial, security and/or risk documents or assessments
Working with or directing minors

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Incumbent may be subject to extreme temperatures.
