Alternate Concepts, Inc. (ACI) and Herzog Transit Services, Inc. (HTSI), collectively the ACI/Herzog Joint Venture, along with our key subcontractors are seeking applicants for the Hudson Bergen Light Rail operation located in Hudson County, New Jersey. ACI was founded in 1989 with their corporate office located in Boston, MA and Herzog founded in 1969 with corporate offices located in St. Joseph, MO and Fort Worth, TX. Combined our companies provide FRA/FTA compliant transportation, equipment maintenance, dispatching, right-of-way maintenance, facility maintenance and dispatching services for 20 distinct client properties. In addition to the Joint Venture being the upcoming operator/maintainer of the Hudson Bergen Light Rail, we currently jointly operate the Tren Urbano heavy rail service in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the CTDOT’s Hartford intercity service in Connecticut.
ACI/Herzog Joint Venture, along with our key subcontractors are currently seeking a Track Maintainer (Foreman) to join our team.
The pay rate for this position is $15.99 per hour.
The Track Maintainer is responsible for the maintenance, repair, inspection, and emergency response related to track within the Hudson Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) system. This role emphasizes safety, operational excellence, and effective team collaboration under varying conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Installs railroad track and embankments including special track work, road crossings, signage, and rail lubricators
- Capable of using hand and power tools and a wide variety of sizes and types of track machines including:
- Spike pullers, spike drivers, tie adze, hydraulic rail jacks, power wrenches, tie boring machines, rail drills, rail grinders, and rail saws
- Highway trucks equipped with rail guide wheels, hydraulic booms, and lift gates to remove and replace ties, rails, fasteners - cut or screw spikes, anti-creepers, bolts, elastic clips, insulators, rail seat pads, and conventional and insulated rail joints, special track work components, crushed rock ballast, crossing surfaces, paving, subgrade material, vegetation, signs, and structures.
- May work as a member of a crew or independently.
- May work under the direction of a Railroad Track Welder.

Qualifications:

- Must be able to pass a pre-employment Drug and Alcohol screening as well as a background check and motor vehicle report review.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Entry-level, on-the-job training provided
- Ability to complete work under time pressures and to maintain composure under the stress of emergency situations.
- Must be able to work well with others.
- Able to read, write, and communicate (speak, hear, and understand) the English language.
Language Skills:
- Ability to speak, read and write English in a work setting.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write regulatory and departmental reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts including but not limited to proficiency in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing all units of measure.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to compute ratio, rates, percentages and able to draw and interpret graphs and tabular data sets.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must successfully complete Light Rail operations training program and Light Rail Operator recertification annually.
- A license within 90 days and pass a DOT physical.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and any other certificates, licenses and registrations as required by law to perform the specified functions.
- Must be certified in CPR/AED.
