Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical design of various complex products for the military, primarily Navy, including: VFD's, control panels, switchboards, and custom internal components such as EMI filters.
  • Analyze customer specifications for key design requirements and serves as an approval authority for design compliance for peer designs.
  • Analyze the applicability of various Military Specifications/Standards for new technology designs and serves as an approval authority for design compliance for peer designs.
  • Perform electrical simulation and other analyses using software and hand calculations to provide design confidence for real-world performance requirements as well as review and approval of peer analyses.
  • Serve as the review and approval authority for drawings and technical documentation for peers.
  • Work with other departments, such as programs, production, and quality, to provide timely technical solutions to production issues, and reduce bottlenecks for highly complex issues or provide guidance to lower-level engineering team solutions.
  • Create supplemental work instructions, technical documentation, test procedures and more to support engineering deliverables to internal and external customers.
  • Attend meetings and conferences on engineering and continuous improvement matters and makes decisions on behalf of engineering department leadership.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines to solve highly complex engineering design challenges.
  • Assist with on-site and off-site testing to support the qualification of equipment for use onboard Navy ships (Shock, Vibration, Electromagnetic Interference, and other Environmental tests) independently or provides guidance to on site support team.
  • Create definition of on-site qualification confidence testing methods and evaluation criteria.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing on completed equipment independently or provide guidance to lower-level engineering team for successful completion.
  • Serve as the lead engineer for design projects, collaborating with Program Management to ensure timely completion of project deliverables.
  • Serve as the engineering representative for customer meetings, formal design reviews, and conferences.
  • Provide mentorship and development for the junior engineering staff.
  • Assist engineering leadership with new project estimating and bid/no bid decisions.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • The following degrees in Engineering, Computer Science, Science or closely related academic field:
  • (MS)& 7-12 Years Relevant Experience

OR

  • (BS)& 10-15 Years Relevant Experience

OR

  • (AS)& 13-18 Years Relevant Experience

OR

  • Relevant Industry Experience of 15-20 Years

Basic Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practical application.
  • Expert in the use of 2D CAD software.
  • Expert in electrical integration best practices
  • Thorough understanding of electrical simulation and analysis with working experience.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical integration best practices.
  • Must be able to work and communicate effectively with other team members, other departments, and leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Willingness to learn and accept and provide mentoring.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to communicate work progress against a given budget and/or due date.
  • Provide budgets and completion dates for the team as the lead engineer.
  • Highly Experienced with MIL qualification testing (Electromagnetic Interference, Power Quality)
  • Highly proficient in technical writing.

Exceptional Qualifications/Experiences:

  • Expert in Software and/or Programming (TIA Portal, WinCC, Studio5000, FactoryTalk, Labview, etc.)
  • Expert with Programming languages (ladder, structured text, C, C++, etc.)
  • Expert in AutoCAD software or electrical schematic design software
  • Strong ability to provide mentoring.

Work Environment:

This position is performed in a manufacturing environment, with some local travel between facilities.
