Kforce Inc. is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer to support our enterprise technology client in Austin, TX or Rochester, MN. Our client is hiring a mechanical design engineer to join the team behind the world's #1 and #3 supercomputers-Summit and Sierra. This role involves developing mechanical models, prototyping hardware, releasing design changes to manufacturing, and evaluating hardware for improvements. The Mechanical Engineer will work in a multi-functional environment balancing requirements across thermal, acoustic, elctro-magnetic-compatibility (EMC), structure, safety, industrial design, cost, and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry product development from concept to release
  • Design mechanical components and systems
  • Perform mechanical analysis including tolerance, clash, and FEA
  • Use CAD tools for modeling (Solidworks preferred)
  • Navigate manufacturing processes and materials (sheet metal, plastics, casting, machining, finishes)
  • Create BoMs, product structures, and engineering changes
  • Develop mechanical models through engagement with team leads and expanded team
  • Update rapid prototype critical hardware
  • Release design changes to manufacturing and evaluate hardware for design improvements* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical design
  • Proficient in CAD tools (Solidworks preferred)
  • 3d mechanical modeling experience
  • Skilled in tolerance, clash, and structural analysis
  • Knowledgeable in material properties and part design
  • Experienced in engineering change releases and design for manufacturing
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Effective collaboration with internal teams and external suppliers
  • Proficient in documenting and presenting test results using Microsoft Office
  • Self-motivated and thrives in a fast-paced team environment
