Engineering Technician 3 - Public Works

The City of Beavertons Public Works Department is hiring an Engineering Technician 3 to perform construction inspection on capital improvement and infrastructure projects across the city.

Were looking for an experienced engineering inspector who enjoys collaborating with colleagues and community partners, and is a great problem-solver. This position requires both field and office work.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, SEIU classified position. The schedule will be Monday-Friday, and the work will be performed in-office or in the field. There is one vacancy.

  • Inspect and monitor infrastructure construction projects to ensure they follow approved plans and standards, including Beaverton code, the Beaverton Engineering Design Manual, Clean Water Services (CWS) Design and Construction Standards, and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) specifications.
  • Issue stop work notices for violations of approved plans, standards, and codes.
  • Use software to document inspections, create reports, generate stop work orders.
  • Coordinate construction changes with project managers.
  • Work with Public Works operations team to test infrastructure systems before acceptance.
  • Handle project close-out by coordinating with project managers, consultants, contractors, and Public Works operations.
  • Coordinate with other local jurisdictions and permitting authorities.
  • Facilitate project acceptance, including final punch lists and bond releases.
  • Review and approve record drawings (as-builts) to ensure that they match the construction.
  • Work with Geographic Information System team members to upload approved record drawings to Cityworks software.
  • Assist the Community Development Department (Site Development Division) with reviewing construction plans before approval.
  • Track issues and help maintain and update the Engineering Design Manual.
  • Participate with process improvement projects and help develop policies, guidelines, and operating procedures.
  • Contribute to a courteous and respectful work environment, and support a culture of accountability within the organization.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field; and
  • Five years of experience in engineering inspection; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.

Licensing and special requirements

  • Valid drivers license and ability to meet the citys driving standards.
  • Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) General Construction Inspector certification within 12 months of hire.
  • ODOT Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Curb Ramp Inspector certification within 12 months of hire.
  • ODOT Asphalt Concrete Pavement Inspector certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Certified Erosion and Sediment Control (CESCL) certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check.

Wage range : $34.43 - $46.14 hourly

Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
