Sewing Machine Operator Job Description As a sewing machine operator, you will be responsible for sewing, joining, gathering, hemming, and reinforcing materials using an industrial sewing machine. Responsibilities Design patterns according to specifications. Cut fiberglass fabric according to patterns and specifications. Sew, join, hem silicone-infused fiberglass material. Work with stainless mesh wire and industrial, commercial material. Inspect final product for flaws, defects, and errors. Mount sewing machine attachments and adjust machine guides accordingly. Monitor sewing machine operation to spot problems such as defective stitching, thread breaks, or machine malfunctions. Design patterns for custom jobs. Account for the quantity of textile materials processed. Inspect high-temperature covers for flaws on material, defects, and errors. Select sewing supplies like fasteners and threads in accordance with job requirements. Mount sewing machine attachments like needles, threads, pattern plates, or cutting blades and adjust machine guides according to approved specifications. Assist other departments as necessary, primarily the Hardcoat department. Essential Skills Experience using an industrial sewing machine for at least one year. Mechanical dexterity to efficiently operate sewing machines and materials. Ability to read a tape measure. Attention to detail with quality assurance experience. Good communication skills. Ability to perform repetitive movements. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and drive projects. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Spanish language skills are a plus. Work experience with manufacturing materials such as resin, fiberglass, and acetone. Good interpersonal skills for teamwork. Work Environment The position operates in a non-climate-controlled environment. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM. You will engage with various materials including silicone-infused material and stainless mesh wire, primarily used for pipe coverings.
