Job Description
S.B. Ballard Construction Company, a leading General Contractor/Construction Manager servicing the Mid-Atlantic region, headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA is seeking an experienced Surveyor to join our team. Incumbent will be responsible for all layout, survey verifications, field calculations and as-built documentation for all our construction projects and will review drawings, survey, verify and report all technical layout to ensure project accuracy and quality from conception to completion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Working knowledge of surveying practices related to the construction industry including: staking and layout, simple topography, field calculations for layout and volumes, verification of completed construction for as-built reporting.
Understanding of plans and specifications.
Utilization of layout equipment: Total station, survey level, possible GPS layout equipment.
Utilization of AutoCAD and survey related software.
Preparation design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and technical reports.
Ensure calculations and drawings of project design team are in accordance with contract documents and layout.
Ability to take clear notes, and report findings and calculations to others.
Ability to work independently without Full time requirement of supervision.
Interfaces with project managers, quality control managers, and project personnel.
Keeps supervisor informed of progress and provides updates.
Attends meetings as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
Frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Requirements
Education: High school diploma, a college degree is preferred but not required.
3+ years in a surveying related position, preferably in construction.
Computer skills and a familiarity with Microsoft office suite programs
Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to read and communicate well both verbally and in writing with all types of people.
