Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer will serve as the engineering point of contact for a power plant in Winchester, KY. This role involves leading and managing complex engineering projects, primarily focused on preventative maintenance, power generation process improvement, and efficiency optimization. The position requires technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and project management duties to enhance plant performance, system reliability, and operational efficiency. The candidate will be the sole engineer on-site, delegating maintenance and operational tasks to technicians and operators while reporting to supervisors on project developments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and finalize reports and work plans that recommend actions based on short and long-term objectives, economic and budget considerations.
  • Coordinate departmental project work plans and manage them through completion, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Lead the development of work plans and monitor progress, taking corrective actions as required.
  • Complete status reports for all work assignments and keep management informed on progress.
  • Act as a technical representative in meetings with public, members, vendors, contractors, and other utilities.
  • Successfully manage complex assignments on a routine basis.
  • Train and develop less experienced engineers.
  • Provide work direction to other staff and contractors on assigned projects.
  • Manage multiple assignments and mentor other staff.
  • Analyze data and make recommendations or decisions.
  • Maintain and approve technical records such as drawings, files, and databases.
  • Oversee and complete preparation of estimates including cost, work order, and schedules.
  • Ensure thorough knowledge of all relevant procedures, specifications, and applicable codes, regulations, compliance rules, and standards.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors in carrying out assignments.
  • Provide engineering assistance for member cooperatives.
  • Create corporate standards and specifications related to expertise.
  • Lead analysis of test data and operating data, recommending plant improvements.
  • Lead design of plant improvements in accordance with engineering practices.
  • Lead preparation of equipment and construction specifications, evaluate bids, and recommend bidders.
  • Coordinate contractors or staff on project-related work, certify completed work, and recommend final acceptance of the project.
  • Lead monitoring of projects during start-up and recommend modifications for success.
  • Lead efforts to improve plant function and increase efficacy.
  • Plan, test, collect, and evaluate data on plant performance and recommend improvements.
  • Accumulate, analyze, and prepare reports concerning industry operations, laws, and regulations.
  • Work with others to provide engineering services to plan and coordinate procedures for reviewing equipment specifications and system interrelationships for planned generating facilities.
  • Develop and maintain equipment/system maintenance basis strategies.
  • Develop and analyze Condition Based and Predictive Maintenance programs.
  • Participate in the daily O&M Work Management Process and Outage Management Team.
  • Lead Corrective Action Review and Root Cause Analysis processes to prevent future occurrences.
  • Perform all engineering-related duties with a Continuous Improvement mindset.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from ABET Accredited school
  • BSME, BSCE preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in power generation, power plant, refinery, petrochemical, or industrial projects
Work Environment

This position is based on-site at the Smith Station Plant in a power plant environment. The engineer must be available as needed to troubleshoot and provide solutions during outages or problems at the plant. There is flexibility for paperwork to be completed from home if the individual has maintained a reputation of integrity within the role. Relocation packages are available.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $104000.00 - $191000.00/yr.
