As Lead Construction Estimator at Tesla you will be playing a critical role in company projects at Tesla facilities. This individual will be part of a team of estimators (with the ability to potentially manage), collaborate with project managers, and ensure that all electrical estimates and takeoffs are accurate, competitive, and submitted on time. You will understand cost drivers at the fundamental level while facilitating value engineering efforts cross functionally, enabling Tesla to rapidly scale our manufacturing facilities at Ludacris speed.

  • Develop conceptual cost estimates from early-stage conceptual designs with limited project maturity, incorporating assumptions based on industry best practices
  • Build detailed estimates from scratch using first-principles methodologies, including labor productivity rates, material takeoffs, and equipment costs. This includes the ability to understand and complete take offs from drawing sets. Inclusive of all discipline scopes
  • Lead estimate compilation efforts from start to finish which includes communicating with various stakeholders on cost drivers and value engineering opportunities across all trades. This includes the ability to manage a team of estimators to drive a estimate to close
  • Use efficient and aesthetic communication methods to escalate risks and communicate opportunities
  • Employ a can-do and innovative attitude, taking the initiative to find ways for continuous improvement and growth of team
  • Create what-if scenario estimates for program strategy and decision making
  • Develop long term strategy on estimation methodology, tool and systems for CAPEX projects
  • 5+ years of estimation experience required (All trades preferred)
  • Experience with large scale commercial or manufacturing scope IE: R&D facilities, Data Centers, Production Plants, Manufacturing facilities
  • Experience in estimation with Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and life safety systems. Mechanical discipline being the main focus
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical utilities, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems. Familiarity with mechanical equipment, materials, and installation methods
  • Experience in value engineering and cost modeling with fast turnaround results
  • Excellent written and verbal communication presentation skills are a must
  • Knowledge of how things are built at the fundamental level, experience with construction management preferred
