Be a part of the team that keeps Pima County parks clean and safe. The selected candidate will supervise a regional zone of urban and linear parks, with responsibility for budget oversight and asset inventory. The Park Supervisor will manage 1520 assigned staff and lead park work-units that perform specialized or advanced maintenance, repair, diagnostics, troubleshooting, construction, fabrication, and preventive maintenance. This role requires technical skills, hands-on experience, and knowledge in the area of specialization, along with strong supervisory and management abilities. The Park Supervisor is also expected to actively apply technical expertise while participating in unique or complex projects. This position is distinguished from the Parks Coordinator II classification by its greater range of managerial and administrative duties and responsibilities.
Essential Functions:

Utilizes subject matter expertise with knowledge and experience of all aspects of the essential functions for Park Coordinator I, II, Park Specialist I, II, Park Technician I, II, and Park Helper classifications;
Supervises and ensures that staff perform all essential functions on a daily basis;
Creates and provides performance plans and performance appraisals for assigned staff;
Evaluates, inspects, and develops park projects based on safety, functionality, and aesthetics;
Participates in, leads, and supervises skilled analysis and repair of equipment and park systems;
Performs operational and preventive maintenance of complex facilities, equipment, and/or park systems;
Some positions may be assigned to a natural resource park, leading and training team members in skilled maintenance involving environmentally sensitive areas, historic restoration, fencing, equestrian facilities, camping sites, ponds, trails, adobe structures, habitat restoration, erosion control, and invasive species management;
Monitors contractor performance;
Maintains comprehensive activity, operations, service, and usage records on supported vehicles, equipment, and systems, preparing oral and written activity reports;
Operates specialized equipment which may require an active Commercial Driver License (CDL);
Proficient in the use of county-assigned computer and software systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in a relevant trade or craft, such as grounds maintenance, horticulture, irrigation systems, carpentry, or facility maintenance AND five years of journey-level experience in that trade or craft.
(Eight years of journey-level experience INCLUDING two years of lead or supervisory experience in the trade, craft or operational area of required expertise may substitute for completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program.)
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
OR:
Two years of experience with Pima County as a Park Specialist II, Park Coordinator I, Park Coordinator II, or related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Minimum four (4) years of lead or supervisor experience in the trade, craft or operational area of required expertise.
Minimum four (4) years experience with Pima County as a Park Coordinator I, II or Park Specialist I, II.
Minimum four (4) years experience maintaining and leading staff in urban park maintenance operations; including turf management, ball field preparation, irrigation repair/installation, structural pruning, and facility maintenance.
Minimum four (4) years experience maintaining and leading staff in linear park and trail maintenance operations; including asphalt repair, hardscape, irrigation repair/installation, structural pruning, and facility maintenance.
Selection Procedure :
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

License and Certificates : Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Some positions require AZ Department of Agriculture-Office of Pesticide Management Certified Applicator license (Core and Category #3-Ornamental and Turf) at the time of appointment or must obtain prior to completion of initial/promotional probation period (6-months). Some positions require a valid Arizona commercial driver license (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s) at the time of appointment, or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing.
