Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This Engineering Technician Specialist position is located in Salina, KS.

The main purpose of this position is to process construction contract documents submitted by the Area Offices, such as Change in Plans and Construction, Force Account Statements, Request for Approval of Subcontractors, Supplemental Agreements, Final Project Payments, and all other documents related to construction and maintenance projects.

NOTE: The employee in this position must also maintain Certified Inspection certifications under the KDOT CIT Program as outlined in the Engineering Technician Progression Manual for the specific job path and any additional as outlined by the Senior Manager.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Process construction contract documents submitted by the Area Offices.
  • Administer all District Highway Permits. This requires meeting and providing assistance to petitioners and explaining regulations.
  • Various other duties as required, such as scheduling district conference room for meetings and training sessions, coordinating noxious weed programs, development of monthly Status of Construction projects reports, preparation and maintenance of City Connecting Link Agreements.
  • Provide answers to inquiries and requests for information from other KDOT departments, State Agencies, Municipal Agencies, contractors, District employees, and the general public.
  • Attend meetings, schools, and conferences with regard to construction, maintenance and administrative activities as required.
  • Coordinates District's Adopt-A-Highway Program
  • Prepare and/or review Project Requests and other maintenance projects.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Six years of experience in engineering technical support.
  • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
  • Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of AWP, Corridor Management Policy, Utility Accommodation Policy

  • This position is subject to pre-employment physical capacity testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
