Are you ready to make a real impact? Join Chino's Code Enforcement team as a part-time Code Compliance Inspector II! Work closely with city residents and business owners to help preserve and enhance the safety and appearance of this special community.
This part-time position, is typically scheduled for 10-20 hours per week, with most shifts currently assigned on Fridays, Saturdays, and/or Sundays. However, the exact schedule-including total hours and shift start/end times-may vary depending on operational needs.
This is a flexible opportunity, ideal for individuals currently employed at other agencies who are looking to share their expertise, gain additional experience, or simply serve the community.
Special Requirements: Must possess a P.C. 832 Arrest, Search and Seizure Certificate and a Certified Code Enforcment Officer (CCEO) certificate issue by the California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO). A copy of certifications must be attached to your application.

The Development Services Department plays a vital role in shaping the community by guiding growth, development, and preservation throughout the city. The Department is responsible for maintaining and implementing long-range plans, managing the entitlement and permitting process, and supporting the development, rehabilitation, and preservation of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. Through its key divisions-Planning, Building, Code Compliance, Accessibility, Housing, and the Permit Center-the Department works to ensure that Chino remains a safe, high-quality, and well-balanced community for all.
Duties/Responsibilities
What You'll Do
As our new Code Compliance Inspector II, you will:
- Investigate and enforce violations related to zoning, sign, land use ordinance violations, public nuisances, parking regulations, and business/home occupation permits, through site visits, thorough documentation, and accurate case management.
- Prepare abatement letters; receive inquiries and provide information to complainants, attorneys, and property owners involved in code violation cases; and prepare other related correspondence.
- Interpret and apply relevant laws, ordinances, and regulations to identify effective compliance solutions, working closely with Planning staff and property owners.
- Collaborate with City staff, property owners, and legal personnel to interpret codes, prepare cases for legal action, and provide testimony in court.
- Support the review and updating of ordinances, while assisting with public inquiries and collaborating with internal teams to ensure smooth enforcement operations.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who:
- Is solution orientated and has strong knowledge of planning, zoning, code compliance, and related laws, with hands-on experience conducting investigations, inspections, and gathering evidence to ensure compliance.
- Communicates clearly, professionally, and tactfully-both verbally and in writing-while building effective problem-solving partnerships with the public, property owners, and City staff.
- Thrives in both office and field environments, is comfortable using technology and maps, and excels at maintaining accurate records in a variety of conditions.
Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Bachelor's degree in law enforcement, planning, or a related field is desirable.
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in municipal enforcement inspection or investigation.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possess a P.C. 832 Arrest, Search and Seizure certificate (required).
Possess a Certified Code Enforcment Officer (CCEO) certificate issue by the California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO) (required).
Possession of a valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, to be maintained throughout employment.
Special Requirements
- Work a varying flexible schedule, including weekdays and weekends (hours/days may be adjusted as needed).
- Receive satisfactory results from a background investigation, a physical examination, which includes a drug screen, and an administrative review.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
- Requires moderate physical effort, including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and occasional lifting or climbing during inspections and fieldwork.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, around moving vehicles or machinery, and on uneven or slippery surfaces, with potential exposure to fumes, dust, or vapors.
