This role balances technical leadership, mentorship, and hands-on documentation within a highly collaborative environment. Job Title : Project Architect (Residential Focus) Location : Pasadena, CA / Hybrid Reports to : President About the Role : As a key team member, you'll bring strong residential design and documentation experience, a deep understanding of California building codes, and the ability to manage internal and external teams across multiple phasesfrom design development through permit-ready documentation. You'll oversee consultant coordination, shepherd projects through the county approval process, and help ensure each home reflects our design values, community priorities, and technical rigor. Responsibilities: Lead coordination with structural, MEP, and civil consultants to execute design intent and deliver high-quality permit documents Work with TFCF leadership to establish production schedules and meet county submittal deadlines Oversee quality control and ensure all implementation documents align with code requirements and TFCF standards Manage technical resolution and documentation for specific home designs within the Catalog Support development of code analyses and zoning studies specific to unincorporated LA County Lead internal and external work sessions to coordinate design intent, technical execution, and consultant inputs Serve as a technical mentor to junior staff and review their work to build skills and uphold quality Represent TFCF in coordination meetings with LA County staff, agency reviewers, and community partners Prepare exhibits as needed for approvals Research materials, products, and assemblies to support resilient, cost-effective design Maintain awareness of project risks and proactively address technical issues with leadership Occasional local travel for site visits, community meetings, or jurisdictional coordination may be required Qualifications: Education & Experience Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited program 8+ years of professional experience with a focus on residential design preferred Experience with California codes, permitting processes, and local jurisdictions required Licensure & Certifications Current architectural license (California) Passive House, WELL, or LEED accreditation a plus Skills & Tools Expert-level Revit proficiency required; ability to manage and review permit sets Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Bluebeam Strong understanding of wood-framed construction and residential detailing Ability to interpret and apply LA County building, zoning, and wildland-urban interface codes Strong coordination, communication, and mentorship skills Experience managing multiple concurrent projects with minimal oversight Compensation: Relative to skills and years of experience Why Join TFCF?
