Title: Senior Data Center Project Manager
Compensation: Up to $150/hr
Location: New York / Hybrid 50% travel (Charleston, Denver, West Texas)
Length of Contract: 12-18mos
Position Description
This role is responsible for the strategic oversight, planning, and execution of data center operations and construction projects across multiple U.S. locations. You will lead cross-functional teams, manage complex project lifecycles, and ensure operational excellence in mission-critical environments. This role requires deep expertise in both operational management and construction processes within mission-critical environments. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, a strong communicator, and a hands-on leader capable of managing complex, multi-site initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end project management for data center construction and operational initiatives across multiple U.S. locations.
- Develop, manage, and execute detailed project plans, budgets, timelines, and resource allocations.
- Oversee site operations to ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and performance standards in mission-critical environments.
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure all project milestones and organizational goals are met.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and implement effective mitigation strategies to prevent project roadblocks.
- Ensure all projects and operations comply with regulatory requirements and operational best practices, including uptime and redundancy (N+1, 2N).
- Regularly travel to Charleston, Denver, and West Texas to monitor on-site progress, manage construction activities, and engage with stakeholders.
- Provide strong, hands-on leadership to cross-functional teams, driving data-driven decisions and balancing competing priorities.
Qualifications
- Candidates who possess strong mechanical and/or electrical engineering expertise, with a preference for experience in both disciplines is highly preferable
- 8+ years of project management experience, specifically focused on data center operations and construction.
- Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale, multi-site projects from conception to completion.
- Deep technical expertise in data center infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, fire suppression, and IT systems.
- Strong understanding of construction management, including permitting, contractor coordination, safety compliance, and the ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to bridge the gap between construction and operations, ensuring a seamless handover and long-term maintainability.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time to project sites. A PMP or similar certification is also preferred.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical and/or Electrical) or Construction Management, with a Master's degree being preferred.
