Job Title: Adventure Cat Operator
Department: Grooming

Status: Seasonal FT

Reporting To: Slopes Manager

Position Overview:

The role of our Adventure Cat Operators is to provide safe and efficient transportation of Powder Mountain and Powder Haven guests inside country terrain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Professional experience operating a Snow Cat - preferred
  • Professional experience operating heavy machinery such as a backhoe/grader
  • Abide to all safety training, certifications and standards outlined by Powder Mountain
  • In depth knowledge of Powder Mountains public and private terrain, as well as side country terrain
  • Be aware of fixed obstacles (Trees, Buildings, Rope lines, Trail signs and Maps)
  • Communicate effectively using 2-way radio systems
  • Minimize trail closures thru use of preventative measures
  • Conduct routine inspections on snow cats and log any damages or required maintenance with Vehicle Maintenance
  • Interact with guests and provide comfortable ride to backcountry terrain
  • Assist guests with equipment and getting into cat
  • Check tickets and passes
  • Watch for uphill skier/hiker traffic.

Requirements and/or Qualifications:

  • Preferred 1 to 3 years' experience in snowcat operations
  • Ability to cut and delineate sides of groomed trail - preferred
  • Ability to navigate multiple travel routes and guest pick up points in low visibility conditions
  • Stay alert at all times and excellent vision
  • Excellent guest service and desire to be polite and accommodating
  • Understand how to complete Pre and Post shift equipment checks
  • Work weekends, holidays, and on call
  • Desire to work at 9,000ft in inclement weather
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with cross-functioning teams
  • Reliable transportation, 4x4 vehicle or commitment to using UTA

Physical Requirements- Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to:

  • Full range of body movements
  • Reach, push, pull, lift, and carry objects that may be heavy (40+lbs)
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, and twisting
  • Walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain
  • Climb/descend stairs/ladders
  • Manual dexterity to operate manual tools and power equipment on a constant basis
  • Safely handle hazardous materials
  • The ability to enter and exit the snowcat frequently

Working Environment: The work environment is primarily in an outdoor environment. You will be required to get in and out of the snowcats frequently. Work is performed outside consisting of extreme temperatures, loud sounds that may be distracting and in inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) at high altitude (9,000+ feet). This role will see sun and wind exposure on a daily basis. Poor visibility and low light days are highly likely.
