Job Title: Winch Snow Cat Operator
Department: Grooming
Status: Seasonal FT
Shifts: Swing Shift (4pm-11pm)
Reporting To: Slopes Manager and Grooming Supervisors
Position Overview:
The role of our Winch Cat Operators/Groomers is to provide safe and efficient grooming of all Powder Mountain trails and slopes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Professional experience operating a Snow Cat - required
- Professional experience operating heavy machinery such as a backhoe/grader.
- Abide by all safety training, certifications and standards outlined by Powder Mountain.
- In depth knowledge of Powder Mountains public and private terrain, as well as side country terrain.
- Be aware of fixed obstacles (Trees, Buildings, Rope lines, Trail signs and Maps)
- Communicate effectively using 2-way radio systems.
- Minimize trail closures through use of preventative measures.
- Be meticulous about snow quality and grooming lines.
- Conduct routine maintenance on snow cats and log any repairs or damages.
Requirements and/or Qualifications:
- 5-10 years' experience in snowcat operations.
- Meets and exceeds all Level 3 grooming expectations
- Understands and performs all safety aspects of equipment operation
- Understands and performs all pre-shift equipment checks on any Powder Mountain equipment
- Acquire knowledge of the mountain (Names and locations of trails, Traverses, Lifts and other facilities)
- Advanced skiing or snowboarding ability
- Great communication skills, be positive and professional in delivery of information
- Willing to help other departments as the need arises
- Ability to cut and delineate sides of groomed trail. - preferred
- Maintain ramps
- Ability to groom advanced terrain - preferred
- Stay alert at all times and excellent vision.
- Work nights, weekends, holidays, and on call.
- Desire to work at 9,000ft in inclement weather.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with cross-functioning teams
- Reliable transportation, 4x4 vehicle or commitment to using UTA.
Physical Requirements- Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to:
- Full range of body movements
- Reach, push, pull, lift, and carry objects that may be heavy (40+lbs)
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, and twisting
- Walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain
- Climb/descend stairs/ladders
- Manual dexterity to operate manual tools and power equipment on a constant basis
- Safely handle hazardous materials
- Ability to climb in and out of snowcat or other heavy equipment multiple times per shift
Working Environment:
The work environment is primarily in an outdoor environment. You will be required to get in and out of the snowcats frequently. Work is performed outside consisting of extreme temperatures, loud sounds that may be distracting and in inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) at high altitude (9,000+ feet). This role will see sun and wind exposure on a daily basis. Poor visibility and low light nights are highly likely.
