The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a Civil Engineer to our Environmental Consulting team in Germantown, Maryland. This position will perform and manage technical tasks such as preparation of work plans, fieldwork, sampling, design, construction oversight, O&M, and report writing on civil and environmental projects in the public and private sector. This position will have field and non-field related responsibilities, requiring up to 50 percent field work and/or travel.

Responsibilities:

Perform a range of tasks requiring utilization of advanced scientific, geologic, and engineering analytical techniques, including: (1) interpretation of complex hydrogeologic settings; (2) interpretation of chemical data from environmental media, and (3) development of cost-effective remedial strategies.
Lead efforts in preparing work plans, subcontract specifications, and remedial investigation, feasibility study, and long-term monitoring reports; remedial system designs and remedial action plans; O&M plans; permit applications, and cost estimates.
Supervise and coordinate the work of junior level staff on projects as appropriate. Provide technical direction and guidance to CADD/GIS operators, designers, technicians, and field personnel.
Work/coordinate with project team personnel.
Execute and interpret project requirements related to RCRA, CERCLA, UST, CWA and other appropriate state and federal regulations
Assist in and potentially lead proposal preparation efforts. Potential to participate in technical and sales presentations to clients.
Manage subcontractors and monitor project cost and schedule performance. Participate in functions involving contact with client representatives.

Required
Candidate must have a B.S. degree in Engineering or Environmental Studies/Science
Candidate must have a valid Maryland P.E. license, or the ability to obtain one within 6months of hire
5-8 years of experience with engineering, scientific, or general environmental projects and data interpretation
Demonstrated experience managing projects
Expertise in CADD, such as AutoCAD Civil, or similar

Preferred
Knowledge of RCRA, CERCLA, UST, CWA and other appropriate state and federal regulations
OSHA training, including 40-hour HAZWOPER
Direct experience in preparing documents such as sampling work plans, CERCLA FS, PRAPs and RODs; RDs and RAPs; O&M Plans, and LTM Reports
Experience including characterization and/or remediation of hazardous waste sites. Field experience should include subsurface soil and groundwater sampling, remedial system installation/oversight, and system O&M.
Experience and knowledge with local/state/federal permitting information
Technical writing

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Candidate must be able to: Perform field investigation and construction oversight that could potentially require the following: Performing strenuous fieldwork under a variety of site and adverse weather conditions; standing, crouching and sitting to facilitate operation of the equipment and collecting samples; moving earth via shovels or hand augers; lifting of pumps, other remediation equipment, cases containing equipment, sample coolers and other items weighing between 1 and 50 pounds; and potential exposure to natural (e.g., poison ivy), physical and chemical hazards.

Office work more prevalent than field or site work; however travel may be required up to 50%. Ability to perform and maintain rigorous detailed documentation of field activities. Field work often involves extended hours on site. Candidate must be able and available to travel via land and/or air and possess a valid drivers license in good standing.

Language & Communication Skills: Excellent writing and communication skills is required. Must fluent in the English language writing and speaking. Technical report writing experience is preferred.

Other Skills: The candidate should be able to manipulate environmental and engineering data including, but not limited to, applying correction factors, converting units, conducting statistical analyses, and performing engineering calculations. Computer Aided Design, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Candidates must be comfortable in performing construction oversight and directing and supervising subcontractors. Candidates must possess ability to resolve conflicts and provide solutions in a professional manner. Roles associated with this position include a variety of field assignments and office-based tasks such as field investigations, O&M, subcontractor procurement, engineering design, construction oversight, subcontractor supervision, data evaluation, report writing, and project management. Candidate must be well organized, enthusiastic and energetic. Strong communication skills are required for work plan, design, and report preparation and interaction with clients in the field. Must be computer literate and be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and environmental software.
