JOB SUMMARY
The Engineering Technician is responsible for performing para-professional technical engineering-related work to assist engineering staff with reviewing and preparing plans, investigations, and data collection for engineering projects. Prepares computer aided drafting (CAD) drawings. Helps ensure compliance in accordance with plans and specifications including City Subdivisions Ordinance and the legally established construction standards, enforcement codes and requirements for civil engineering projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in engineering, drafting, construction management or related field, and four years of related experience with a municipality, public entity, or a consulting civil engineering firm; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid class "C" Texas driver's license or higher.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, schematics, blueprints and maps.
- Knowledge of computer aided drafting (CAD) programs (e.g., Civil 3D)
- Skill in the use of personal computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.
- Skill in conducting a simple field investigation of the location of water and sewer lines, opening manhole covers, walking across ditches, and helping survey crew.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
- Ability to read civil engineering drawings in regard to public works projects (water, sewer, and streets), civil drafting, calculations, and computer aided design.
- Ability to drive to sites, set survey equipment to check elevations and alignment of work, and inspect pipes in ditches.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, crouching, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, talking, and walking.
