HVAC Mechanic I North Orange County Community College District Position Number: 2015852P Location: Fullerton College Department: FC Physical Plant/Facilities Percentage of Employment: 100% Months of Employment: 12 Months Per Year Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Schedule and shift are subject to change in accordance with department needs.) Job Description: JOB DESCRIPTION Inspects, repairs, adjusts and assists in installing refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units and gas operated equipment; performs preventive maintenance activities as assigned. Repairs or replaces defective parts in units and equipment and controls including thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, belts, compressors, heat exchanges, metering devices, high limit controls, pressure controls, safety valves and automatic gas valves. Services heating, ventilating and refrigeration motors, pumps, fans and related equipment; re-generates water softener. Rebuilds and replaces water pumps; replaces pressure and temperature safety valves. Inspects, repairs and cleans boilers and assures water is properly treated for PH control; tests water samples and adjusts chemical feeding equipment for proper water treatment. Performs brazing, soldering and welding as necessary. Assists other HVAC personnel in performing duties as required. Maintains routine logs and records related to daily activities; assists in ordering supplies and materials as needed. Learns and applies emerging technologies and as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized, and timely manner. Participate in District/College efforts to increase the diversity of faculty and staff and to address student achievement gaps; active assistance in the creation of a welcoming and inclusive work and educational environment; attend and participate in diversity, equity and inclusion trainings and events. Performs related duties as assigned. Primary Purpose: PRIMARY PURPOSE This position is responsible for assisting in the repair, inspection, servicing and installation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, and related equipment and facilities. Working Relationships: WORKING RELATIONSHIPS The HVAC Mechanic I completes assigned tasks under direction. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of applicable District codes and ordinances Knowledge of the materials, tools, and equipment utilized in heating, ventilating and refrigeration Knowledge of proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies Knowledge of basic electrical theory Knowledge of welding and soldering techniques Knowledge of health and safety regulations Knowledge of record keeping techniques Knowledge of boiler operations Ability to work from blueprints, shop drawing and sketches Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment utilized in the basic trade Ability to operate a personal computer to adjust schedules of heating and air conditioning units within pre-established programs Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work Ability to meet schedules and time lines Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Special Requirements: SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires a valid driver's license. Incumbent may be required to travel off site for business reasons. All employees driving personal, leased, or district-owned vehicles for District related activities must certify possession of a valid Driver's License. Employees must certify that personal vehicles are covered by automobile insurance as required by California law. (Administrative Procedure 7400, Section 4.0) If selected as a finalist and/or given an offer of employment for this position, you will be required to provide your valid Driver's License information. TRAINING REQUIREMENTS ( AFTER HIRE ) Asbestos Awareness (2 hrs) Confined Space Industrial Truck/Forklift Certification Lead Awareness Lockout/Tag out Respiratory Protection Utility Cart Certification Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED . Sufficient experience in the maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning equipment to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities listed. Commitment to diversity. Working Conditions: WORKING CONDITIONS Indoor and outdoor environment; subject to frequent lifting (up to 70 pounds unassisted), standing, bending, carrying, crawling, pushing and pulling; subject to constant heat, fumes, and noise; exposure to potential electrical shock from high voltage; exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials. Salary Range: $5,151 - $6,191 Per Month Open Date: 08/05/2025 Close Date: 08/19/2025 Special Instructions Summary: SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS SUMMARY This is a classified position subject to a one-year probationary period. Initial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources in accordance with Board Policy and is not negotiable.
