Plumber III

Job Title: Plumber III Reports To: Plumbing Supervisor Classification: Auxiliary (Skilled Labor) Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days: 250 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Auxiliary Pay Plan, Pay Grade 311 Contract: None Date Revised: 8/14/2025 Primary Purpose: Responsible for maintaining the plumbing and related equipment in a healthy and safe condition at all Spring Branch Independent School District Facilities. Qualifications/Skills: Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years technical school mechanical or plumbing discipline preferred.
  • Master Plumber License preferred
  • Texas journeyman plumber license.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of City of Houston plumbing and gas codes.
  • Must be able to operate excavating equipment
  • Ability to work for continuous or extended time periods exposed to, but not limited to, sun, heat, cold, poor weather conditions and/or mechanical room or equipment noise.
  • Ability to perform extensive physical and repetitive activities, included but not limited to pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, carrying and regular lifting of 90 pounds.
  • Must be able to demonstrate supervisory skills
  • Can communicate effectively
  • Ability to work well with peers
  • Must be capable of making independent, on the spot, "safe to operate" decisions regarding safety for students and staff.

Experience:

  • Must have ten (10) years of experience in the plumbing trade.

Major Duties and

Responsibilities: Maintenance and Repair:

  • Install, maintain and repair potable and non-potable water lines, sewer lines, gas lines, domestic and commercial water heaters, flush devices, drinking fountains, pumps and related equipment.
  • Perform Back-Flow Testing
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance.
  • Review ands assign work orders daily
  • The ability to source parts through vendors, keep an inventory log.
  • Act as Project Lead when requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory

Responsibilities: The ability to supervise and lead a crew in the absence of the Supervisor Equipment Used: Calculator , fax machine, ovens, dishwasher, ladder, small hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, sockets, pliers, crimpers, wire cutters, etc.), hand saws, power tools (saw, drill, sander, etc.), drills, grinder, welding torch, lift equipment, light van, seat belts, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher, radio communication equipment and cellular phone. Working Conditions: Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public

Physical Demands:

  • Heavy lifting and carrying on a daily basis (90 pounds and over).
  • Standing, walking, climbing (stairs, ladder, scaffold, or ramps), balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, hearing, speaking clearly and driving truck or van.

Environmental Factors:

  • Exposure to temperature extremes (hot or cold), humidity extremes, noise and vibration.
  • Exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.).
  • Exposure to chemical hazards (fumes, vapors, gases, dust, smoke, etc.).
  • Exposure to electrical hazards. Work outside. Prolonged exposure to sunlight.
  • Work with hands in water. Work around moving objects or vehicles.
  • Work around machinery with moving parts.
  • Work on slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • Work alone. Work prolonged or irregular hours.
