CODES, PRODUCT AND TRAINING SUPERVISOR (Building Division Training Supervisor)

Specialized, professional and technical work monitoring impending code changes. Reviews and recommends acceptability of proposed alternate construction materials and methods for compliance with adopted building codes; identifies, develops, coordinates, facilitates, and participates in training and professional development programs, instructional workshops and presentations for Division personnel and clientele. Responsible for reviewing new construction codes and overseeing the evaluation of products, materials and systems for strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, safety and energy efficiency. Meets with construction product manufacturers to evaluate performance test data and design analysis against adopted building parameters; oversees recommendations regarding product acceptability, uses and applications. Drafts technical advisories. Conducts training needs assessments; acquires or develops/writes training curricula; monitors and evaluates training programs and may participate in the instruction and presentation of same. Work is performed with considerable independence and the employee is afforded considerable latitude in the use of technical discretion and judgement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction or related field; minimum of four (4) years of experience in construction code review/inspection/administration/training or building code training program development. Equivalencies: Unrelated Bachelor's Degree and five (5) years of related experience OR Associate's Degree and six (6) years of related experience OR graduation from high school/equivalent recognized certification and eight (8) years of related experience.

Necessary Special Requirements:

  1. Must be Licensed as a Plans Examiner, per Florida Statute 468, in three (3) of the four (4) following categories: Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing or Structural at time of hire AND must obtain certification in the fourth (4th) category or obtain One and Two Family Dwelling Plans Examiner Certification within 11 months of hire OR

  2. Candidates who possess an International Code Council Certification (ICC) in the categories of Electrical, Structural, Mechanical or Plumbing must qualify for and obtain a Provisional License within 120 days of hire and obtain a Standard License with the State of Florida within 11 months of hire.

PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE IN/WITH: Code development process/any code bodies such as the Florida Building Commission or International Code Council (ICC) (must specify on application); participating in any construction trades associations (e.g., Building Officials Association of Florida [BOAF], International Association of Electrical Inspectors [IAEI], Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association [FRSA], etc.) (must specify associations on application); public speaking within a technical or educational setting; performing detailed mathematical engineering analysis.
