IRC65450 Construction Inspector I

This is technical field work involving the inspection of Water Resources construction projects to ensure compliance with contractual design, engineering specification, City ordinances, and other contractual obligations. A selected candidate will inspect assigned jobs and is responsible for proper compliance with specifications and regulations relating to workmanship and materials. Work involves maintaining records of daily activities and construction projects such as pipe laying, requesting tests of construction materials and other related construction activities for specification conformance; interacting and working closely with department engineer, design staff and important contacts with contractors, officials of the County, State and Federal governments, other City departments and the public.

Salary: $25.15 - $35.08 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants Must:

• Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
• Have at least one (1) year of journeyman contractor, and/or inspection experience, preferably on public works construction projects such as sanitary pipe lining, buildings, utilities, sanitary dig and replace projects, water main construction, and/or similar projects.
• Have knowledge of standards for materials and workmanship in construction projects.
• Are able to read engineering plans and specifications related to civil engineering projects.
• Have basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Are able to make routine inspections of limited complexity.
• Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

• Possess a valid Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, or trade certification with major course work in construction.
• Have a valid wastewater collection and/or water distribution license.
• Have considerable knowledge of surveying practices and techniques related to construction.
• Have experience in the construction and installation of potable water and/or wastewater pipes and utilities.
• Have considerable knowledge of standards for materials and workmanship in construction projects.
• Have some knowledge of contract administration, construction management, and estimating costs for construction materials, labor, and equipment.
