Maintenance and Reliability Engineering Supervisor
The Maintenance and Reliability Engineering Supervisor reports to the Maintenance and Reliability Engineering Manager. The Supervisor leads and manages a team focused on ensuring the reliability, availability, and maintainability of Air Force products, systems, or infrastructure. The Supervisor will be tasked with coordinating resources and providing guidance and mentorship to early career Analysts, Subject Matter Experts and Maintenance and Reliability Engineers. The Supervisor will continue to execute technical tasks on assigned projects while providing oversight to the analytical work carried out by those under their supervision to include developing and implementing reliability programs, analyzing failure data, and implementing solutions to improve reliability and reduce downtime. Collaboration with Engineering teams and stakeholders is required to incorporate reliability considerations into design and processes. The ability to identify potential failures, analyze their root causes, and implement measures to prevent or mitigate them. The Supervisor provides oversight and direction seeking to improve the reliability, durability, and performance of aerospace structures and systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise a team in problem-solving, best practices, and process improvement to achieve organizational objectives.
- Lead a team in designing and implementing continuous improvement programs to enhance overall sustainability and maintainability of aircraft platforms.
- Develop and execute strategic improvement plans to maximize aircraft availability and minimize maintenance and sustainability costs.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode investigations (FMEA) to diagnose and resolve reliability issues.
- Oversee reliability-related projects, ensuring proper scope, planning, execution, and long-term sustainability.
- Track and maintain reliability performance metrics, using data to drive decision-making.
- Champion continuous improvement efforts, collaborating with leadership and other stakeholders.
- Develop training programs for Analysts, Air Force maintenance technicians, engineering leaders, and reliability engineers.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in reliability engineering.
- Respond to emergency situations as needed.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep understanding of reliability/maintainability/sustainment methodologies and statistical tools, including FMEA, DoE, RCM, and CBM+.
- Strong background in root cause analysis (RCA) and failure investigations.
- Familiarization and involvement in the government MECSIP program including knowledge of Critical Parts, Critical Application Item (CAI), Critical safety item (CSI), Maintenance Planning, Operational Analysis, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Mechanical Equipment and Subsystems Integrity Program (MECSIP) MIL-HDBK-1798D, etc.
- Proven project management experience, from scope development to execution and sustainability.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence leadership.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel capabilities for data analysis and reporting.
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial, or reliability engineering, related experience and military service will be considered in lieu of a degree
- 4+ years experience as a Maintenance and Reliability Engineer
- Demonstrated performance as a Lead in maintenance or engineering management, mentoring reliability engineers and maintenance professionals.
A US Secret Clearance or the ability to be eligible for one is a requirement.
