About the Job
This is a part-time (75%, 30 hours per week) position that performs a variety of manual labor tasks from detailed instructions that are tailored to milking cows, treating cows for mastitis, moving cows to and from the milking center, and cleaning and sanitation of the milking equipment, milking center, and cow stalls and walkways.
Job duties (include percentages)
90% This position involves;
Milking cows any day of the week (including weekends), morning or evening, on a flexible schedule with five guaranteed shifts per week.
Cows are milked twice daily at 5am and 4 pm according to milking protocol.
10% Secondary tasks include;
Keeping simple treatment, milk weight, and milk production records.
Other tasks may involve assisting in sorting of livestock, calving, and grooming of livestock.
These examples do not include all possible tasks in this position and do not limit the assignments of related tasks.
*Work hours are variable / flexible to accommodate milking schedule.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
High school graduate.
Six (6) months general labor in tending to animals and duties related to animal care and/or milking
Flexibility in scheduling
Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in milking cows
Training as a milker
Flexibility in scheduling
Evidence of capacity to accept training
Skills to read and write English
Follow detailed instructions
Make minor mechanical repairs and adjustments to milking- related equipment
Ability to milk cows safely, and motivation to work patiently with farm animals

The University of Minnesota's West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) is located in Morris, MN. The WCROC is part of the University of MN College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources Sciences providing a tradition of excellence in applied agricultural research and education for farmers and rural communities in crop production, animal sciences, horticulture, water quality, organic and conventional dairy, swine production, and renewable energy.

Pay Range: $22.17 per hour (Step 1); depending on education/qualifications/experience
Time Appointment Category: 75% time, 12 month
